Update 12/17/2019: “Unfortunately Freckles’ body could not stand up to the ravages of extreme shadow chasing and he passed away. “
Freckles is now running free. Many different things were tried to assist Freckles with his extreme shadow chasing. He would make an improvement for a while and then it would get worse again.
Unfortunately Freckles’ body could not stand up to the ravages of extreme shadow chasing and he passed away. His foster family misses him greatly; they had hoped for a much better outcome. Run FREE, Freckles!!! You were loved.
Original: “This is an extremely sweet boy that likes to be held like a baby.”
Freckles came to MAESSR from another rescue group in Maryland. His OCD light chasing required someone with more experience with this type of issue to foster him. The rescue group did not have such a foster home so they turned to MAESSR.
The person that had been temporarily fostering him at the previous rescue called him Ducky. This name fits his personality much better than Freckles. Freckles does not respond to his name. He had been picked up as a stray in Maryland and was in the shelter for two months when the other rescue agreed to take him.
Housetrained and crate trained, Freckles does okay in the crate with a cover over it so he won’t be bothered by lights and shadows. Initially, Freckles was spinning and running in tight circles. Since he has been started on medication, he rarely spins or runs in circles. He is still chasing lights and shadows and his forever family must learn to redirect him into more positive actions but not to punish him.
In the past he has lived with three cats and he just ignored them. There are many foster and resident dogs in his current foster home but he doesn’t pay any attention to them.
Freckles’ knowledge of commands is limited to “sit” but he is okay on leash with just a little bit of pulling. Freckles’ forever home will have to have a large fenced yard for him to have plenty of room to run.
This is an extremely sweet boy that likes to be held like a baby. How about bringing Freckles into your home and heart?
