Original: “Typical Springer boy, Freckles loves to be close to his people.”
Freckles was bought as a small puppy in Pennsylvania and was well cared for and loved. Unfortunately his elderly owner was using oxygen and could no longer care for him. Additionally, her husband died one year ago, so there was no one to play with Freckles. His owner decided that it would be best for Freckles to be rehomed.
Freckles is housetrained. He was crated as a puppy but hasn’t been in a crate for years and has full freedom throughout the house. He’ll bark if someone walks by but doesn’t dig, chew, jump the fence, or submissively urinate. Freckles will sometimes beg for food and he has counter-surfed once. He’ll jump on people when they first come in the house but settles down when petted. Reportedly good with children, Freckles grew up with the grandchildren who were 7 and 8 years old when Freckles was brought home. He hasn’t been around toddlers. He gets along with other dogs and has gone twice a week to doggie daycare to play and socialize.
Freckles had a biting incident once, about 4 months ago. His owner cooked herself a steak and was sitting at the table. She cut a piece and gave it to Freckles and then turned away for a moment. Freckles jumped and snatched the steak off her plate. His owner tried to get the steak back and was bitten on the hand. No medical attention was required. Normally Freckles’ owner could take anything from him with no problems.
Freckles doesn’t like the vacuum cleaner or fireworks. He’ll pull while on the leash; he rides well in the car. For fun, Freckles loves to chase his ball. He has never been swimming.
Freckles’ overall health is good with no chronic medical problems. He doesn’t have any grooming issues and the vet usually trims his nails.
When he came into foster care, Freckles was very anxious and worried. His foster mom worked with the vet to get him started on an inexpensive medication to help his anxiety. He is feeling much better now and the vet and vet staff noticed a significant difference in him when he went back in for a recheck. Freckles’ new family will be required to keep him on this medication for a minimum of six months after adoption…perhaps longer.
Typical Springer boy, Freckles loves to be close to his people. He is a fun and loving pup that will be a great addition to his new family.
