Original: “This active boy LOVES tennis balls. He wants to have one ALL the time and he also wants his person to throw it ALL the time!”
This young New York Springer was owned by a person that lived in the city. This original owner was unable to get him enough exercise so he tried to find him a new family on Craigslist. His new family was hoping that Freckles would get along with their 9-year old Springer. At first, this worked out very well and the two dogs got along nicely. Unfortunately, the dynamics between the two changed when the 9-year old tore his ACL. After that, the issues started. The family did their best to make the situation work, but there was a personality conflict between the two dogs that could not be resolved. The extremely difficult decision was made to have MAESSR find Freckles a home where he would be happier.
Freckles moved in to his multi-dog foster home and has not had an issue with any of the dogs there. Even as new foster dogs arrive, Freckles has been great with them. His foster mom thinks Freckles would do best in a home without really young children since he gets excited and would accidentally knock them over.
This active boy LOVES tennis balls. He wants to have one ALL the time and he also wants his person to throw it ALL the time! With this favorite activity Freckles needs a home with a large fenced yard so someone can play fetch with him. Don’t worry, he is very good about bringing the ball back to the thrower. He will even toss the ball at his person’s feet so the ball can be thrown again.
Freckles does not have much of an opportunity to walk on a leash, as his foster family lives on several acres where he can run. When he does go on a leash walk, he really pulls so his foster mom would recommend walking him with a harness. Freckles likes to ride in a car, too, and does well as a passenger. He used to be crated in the car but that is no longer needed.
Freckles is a sweet boy that loves attention. His house manners need some honing, though. He will counter-surf if given a chance and needs to learn not to jump up on people—especially on children as this scares them. On the more positive side, Freckles is housetrained and crate trained and he sleeps peacefully on a dog bed in his foster parents’ bedroom at night.
Freckles behaved nicely at the vet. Although he was anxious, he never made any move to snap or be ugly. The vet thought that Freckles would benefit for taking medication for anxiety and his adoptive home will be required to keep him on the medication for a minimum of six months after adoption. On his spa day, Freckles was a champ at being groomed and LOVED his bath
This handsome tri-colored boy would love an active family where he could burn off his energy in play! How are you at playing fetch? Freckles may be the perfect match for you!
