Original: This girl was dropped off at the shelter with her litter of puppies. The puppies clearly are not purebred, but she certainly is. She might have been doomed to repeated breedings as a money machine. She is sweet, friendly and all around loveable. We don’t know how she is around small children. We expect that she will be fine with school age children. We hope to have her into foster care soon.
UPDATE: October 24, 1999
Freckles’ new family picked her up yesterday. Apparently, it was love at first sight!
UPDATE: March 2000
She has a new “brother” Bailey, and is doing quite well in her new home.
UPDATE:
Thought I’d share some of the good cheer and the lastest about Tess (formerly Freckles II). For those of you waiting for the perfect ESS, it’s worth the wait. We saw some wonderful dogs adopted to other families while we were waiting, but I can truthfully say that Tess is a perfect match. We were even able to help with the transport because her foster mom was only an hour or so away from my parent’s place in PA.
For all of Tess’ idiosyncracies, I guess I should feel lucky that I don’t have much trouble cleaning her ears like everyone else has been writing about recently. We even had to do daily cleaning with a special solution lately, but she’s been a doll about it. Of course, she expects a treat as soon as it’s done (and so does Bailey, our other pup). I think I’ll give the yogurt and/or cranberry trick a try.
With the holiday season upon us, we’re thinking of all that we’re thankful for. Tess is a wonderful addition to our family – we love her a lot. We have a slew of pictures of her – she and her brother were the cover of our xmas card last year – and now we got a videocamera for xmas to record all of her hilarious antics and vocalizations. She can be hyper, full of energy, and into everything that she shouldn’t be one minute, and the next curled up next to me, quiet and still, as if that was the best place to be.
Thanks MAESSR, for bringing our baby girl Tess into our lives.
