Frankie was relinquished to MAESSR because of his owners’ health issues in their Delaware home. Caring for Frankie was becoming increasingly difficult and resulted in his getting very little exercise and lots of food.
Coming into foster care after living as a solo dog in the same home for 7 years was a bit of an adjustment for Frankie, but he soon learned to fall back on his familiar good behavior in a new place. He is being trustworthy off leash and with free roam of the house. He doesn’t like a crate but knows “Go to bed” and is more than willing to head that way at the end of the day. Frankie is completely housebroken, doing his business quickly when let out. This, of course, means he can go on to other more interesting activities, such as walks from home and car rides to even better walking spots. He’s game for whatever distance walk he can get. Initially pulling a bit on leash, Frankie calms down and walks decently once underway.
Frankie gets along with the resident dogs. Initially he looked bothered if the resident male terrier growled at him, but he let it go after a day or so; his foster mom explained to him that it’s just a terrier thing. Frankie likes the resident female Springer and follows her lead in situations new to him. He knows “sit,” “down,” “come,” and “go potty.” He seems fine with the neighborhood children, taking his cue from his foster sister to go for belly rubbing. He likes to fetch a tennis ball inside or outside and he likes to take his stuffed animal to bed for company.
His overall health is good. Frankie has a small free-moving cyst on a right leg which his vet said doesn’t need removal at present. It just needs to be watched. Right now Frankie is building his endurance and dropping weight is a priority. Despite the extra weight, Frankie doesn’t seem to have any hip or other joint issues and his thyroid level has been checked and is normal. So, with a smaller quantity of low-calorie food and several walks a day, the pounds are already starting to come off.
His activity level indoors is low. Frankie mainly hangs out near his humans. He does bark if someone comes to the door but then he is quiet, once they’re accepted in. This sweetie is of rock-solid character. He isn’t pushy but loves to have his head on your lap or be spread out nearby while you read or watch TV. When outdoors, he will follow you around the yard while you do chores.
Frankie will make someone a fine companion. He’s adapted well to one major change in his life. You can insure it is his last by opening your home and heart to this great boy!!
