Update 04/16/08:
On a return visit to the vet, Foxy got very good news. The vet felt her skin lesions were healing. She felt the lesions are benign, just a part of aging, and would not warrant biopsy as earlier anticipated. Foxy will go on another two-week regimen of her antibiotics since they seem to be beneficial and will see the vet again when they are finished. In addition, the vet remarked that Foxy seems to be very healthy otherwise, has excellent teeth, and an excellent temperament – very good to hear, indeed.
Foxy enjoys busyness in her days. She went to her foster mom’s hairdresser’s house one morning, and, then to the vet in the afternoon with various stops on the way home. You’d think she would have wanted to sleep or rest when she finally got home after being out all that day. But, as the vet remarked, “it’s hard to believe she is a senior because she has so much energy and playfulness.” When Foxy got home that day, she could not wait to tell her foster siblings about her adventures! Rest was reserved for her evening bedtime. Given Fox’s good news from the vet, she’ll not be ready to slow down anytime soon.
She has also been introduced to cats and had no issues with them. More on Foxy’s outings to come…
Original:
Foxy came to a Pennsylvania shelter after her owners moved and could not take her with them. The shelter sought MAESSR’s help to find a permanent home for this spry senior gal.
Foxy’s foster home has two resident Springers and a large mixed breed dog. Foxy is docile and immediately accepted her place as a lesser pack member. Initially, Foxy would not leave her foster mother’s side. She even showered with her the first morning at home, which made it easy to bathe her! Foxy has quickly learned the other dogs’ routine and she easily became an accepted pack member.
This lovely girl is estimated to be about ten years old, but you would never know it since she is athletic and playful. Foxy is housebroken and is left home with the other dogs for up to seven hours a day with no accidents. She knows basic commands, walks pretty well on a leash, and although she is initially a little whiney and anxious in the car, she eventually falls asleep. This sweetheart is also very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Mannerly, she only chews on bones which she loves. She also is a good eater and has adjusted well to her dry food. She is pretty much the perfect dog with the softest coat imaginable.
Foxy has been around children from infants to teens and is gentle and accepting of their attention. She has not yet been introduced to cats, but judging her reaction of being with other dogs, she would probably be fine. She would probably make an excellent therapy dog, too.
Since becoming a MAESSR foster dog, Foxy has started receiving treatment for her skin ailments. She has had a culture of some sores on her body. They seem to be improving significantly since starting a two-week regimen of antibiotics. Once she completes her antibiotics, Foxy will then have her lesions biopsied and removed.
Once Foxy is medically cleared, any family that is looking for a sweet, well-mannered dog would be so very lucky to add Foxy to their family. Foxy is just so very content to sit by your chair and chew her bone. She is truly wonderful company.
