Original: Forest and his sister Marion were lucky pups when someone found them in the Francis Marion Forest and then brought to a South Carolina shelter. At that time, they were both brought UTD on their shots and were neutered and spayed, respectively. Both appeared to be very hungry little pups after wandering by themselves in the woods. Shelter workers contacted MAESSR and now both pups are flourishing in their foster homes.
Forest is a jovial pup. He loves all people and even has his own ten-year-old human sibling in his foster home! Recently, he met his first two-year-old and just stared as if to say, “You’re as small as me!” As his confidence grows with the encouragement of his foster family, everybody will be Forest’s best friend!
His experience fending for himself in the woods has made any food time a challenge. Forest never misses any opportunities to get into the trash or counter surf. He gobbles his food as if it were his last meal and he is the first in the kitchen to assist with the preparation of food. Forest is crated for his meals as well as his foster family’s meals to ensure that he does not jump in a family member’s lap, or he does not clean up the older resident Springer’s bowl before she is finished eating.
Although he is submissive at first, Forest gets along well with other dogs. He loves the elder resident Springer and attempts to snuggle with her every chance she allows. A real Velcro Springer, Forest loves being with his foster family members at all times and gladly helps his humans with their chores, such as laundry and sweeping the floor. At least, he thinks he is helping! He believes clothes should be left unfolded!
Housetraining is coming along. He has had a few accidents, but every day is better. Forest does not mind being in his crate, either. When he initially goes into his crate, he lets out a few barks but settles right down. As far as commands, he understands no and sit. He is very alert and will enjoy the challenge of obedience class. Any MAESSR pup one or younger is required to complete at least one course of obedience training. This helps the bond between pup and family to become strong and it helps the pup to become an obedient, cooperative member of the family. Forest is a good passenger in the car already and is always up for the adventure of a car ride. Each day on his walks, Forest holds his head up higher and with increasing pride as he prances through the neighborhood. His confidence is really starting to shine through.
Now that he has love, shelter, food, and toys (especially squeaky toys) Forest is happy! He has so much puppy love and energy to offer. Make him your boy forever!
