Update 01/15/2023: “Finn loves to go for walks and just be with his people. He rides well in the car and will travel anywhere with you.”
Finn returned to MAESSR when his owner developed health issues that would not allow him to continue to care for Finn. It was a heartbreaking situation, but everyone wanted what was best for Finn.
Returning to his original foster home, Finn fit back in just like he had not been gone for 5½ years. He still does not get along with some dogs and will growl at them, which can occasionally cause a fight. In his defense, he is living in a home with 13 other dogs…but that also shows his behavior isn’t that bad or it would be constant chaos.
Finn loves to go for walks and just be with his people. He rides well in the car and will travel anywhere with his folks. This boy has enough spunk, energy, and love to make any Springer owner happy.
Original: “When he feels like it, Finn is very much the Velcro boy who loves to sit next to people and have them hold his paw; however, you couldn’t pick him up and put him on your lap. He would have to get into a lap because he wanted to do that.”
His New York owners realized that they had to re-home Finn when he began displaying guarding issues with the other dog in the home and when he was becoming increasingly anxious with their children’s coming in and out of the house. His family felt that Finn would be happier as an only dog and in a child-free house. So, they turned to MAESSR for help in finding a new home that would be a better match for this young Springer.
Finn’s foster parents agree that he would be happier as an only dog in his new home. Although he is good with most other dogs, the ones he does not like are the ones that will “challenge’ him. He will guard his “person” against the other dog coming up to them also.
When he feels like it, Finn is very much the Velcro boy who loves to sit next to people and have them hold his paw; however, you couldn’t pick him up and put him on your lap. He would have to get into a lap because he wanted to do that. The former owner said Finn is usually wonderful with adults and loves especially men—quiet, calm men- like the plumber. Finn would get right next to the plumber and practically climb under the sink with him!
Housetrained and crate trained, Finn is mannerly and trustworthy indoors. He has no separation anxiety, doesn’t chew inappropriately, is good at the groomer and vet, and loves to ride in the car. His only indoor faults include occasional counter-surfing and begging at the table. He had several sessions of puppy school and he comes when called. Since he pulls a little on the leash, he is walked with a gentle leader. Reportedly, he loves to swim.
In his original home, Finn lived with a cat whom he really liked. They would play together. If the cat got around Finn when he was trying to sleep, he sometimes would growl at the cat but the cat just ignored him.
Finn’s foster mom can touch him all over. She can clean his ears, look at his teeth, and touch his feet. If he stole something, she would not try to take it from him, but instead would trade him for something else. If she dropped a piece of meat, she could say, “ACK” and he wouldn’t take it. Good boy, Finn!
Finn is a sweetheart and will be a wonderful addition to a new family as their only dog. (No children please as their high activity levels make Finn nervous!)
