A handsome setter mix boy, Felix ended up in a Maryland shelter as a stray. The staff there really liked him and thought he was such a good pup. His only issue was if he was told to do something he did not want to do, he would snap. The shelter contacted a MAESSR volunteer to work with him on changing this behavior.
Felix enjoyed the ride to his foster home from the shelter by snacking on a hamburger and fries. Yum! When he arrived at his foster home, he ran and ran for the first couple of days. He thought it was wonderful that there was a dog door and he could go out for a run whenever he wanted. Felix quickly settled into the household routine and has been an almost perfect guest. He is housetrained and crate trained. He does not counter-surf. Felix only chews on toys that he has been given. He loves attention and is very gentle with people. What a good boy!
When he arrived at his foster home, Felix came with a urinary tract infection and an ear infection. During his vet visit, he did not like being restrained while they tried to clean his ears and put in ear meds. He was not in any way aggressive; he just kept pulling away and jerking his head. The vet felt that Felix had not had many people in his life try to hold him close and that he did not know how to react. His foster family has been working with him on this and he is doing better. He just needs to learn how to be loved.
Felix was a little anxious when meeting new people and in new situations. His foster mom started him on an inexpensive supplement that has really helped him feel more confident in new surroundings and around new people. He is even letting her clean his ears a little better now without trying to run away. Now that Felix is in a home and is feeling better, there have not been any incidents of his reacting badly when told to do something he does not want to do. His foster parents regularly grab his collar and have him do things just so he gets used to it.
This is one extremely sweet boy. His foster mom says that someone will be getting a wonderful boy when they adopt Felix!
