Update 11/12/04: Evie’s adoptive family determined that she was not going to be a good fit in their family and she was returned to MAESSR. Evie’s new foster mom says that she is a very sweet girl who really wants to bond with a human. After a day or two, she settled into her new foster home quite nicely.
Overall, her relationship with the two resident springers is good. However, in her quest to be loved, Evie has been somewhat dominant over the resident female springer. There’s no fighting. Evie just lets the resident female know that she wants all of the attention, and, the resident female lets her take center stage. For the most part, Evie leaves the resident male alone because he’s not such a pushover. Evie also seems somewhat unsure of herself around children. Based on this, Evie should not be placed in a home with children under the age of 16 or with a dominant female dog. She would likely do well with a male dog who likes to play. (The resident male springer in her foster home is a bit anti-social!).
Evie would benefit greatly from obedience training. It would help her to form a healthy bond with her new family and finish learning basic skills. She is well-behaved in the house and is learning commands, but she needs work on the leash.
Evie is a pint-sized bundle of love. She is so happy to be petted and loved that she will just cuddle up, close her eyes, and sigh deeply. Could you be the one she needs to bond with and give her a happy home for many years to come?
Original: Evie is a petite, field-bred springer with beautiful soulful eyes. She was turned into a rural shelter in West Virginia as a stray. She is housebroken and gets along great with her foster brothers and the six-year-old son in her foster home. She is reported to be good with cats. In her foster home, Evie alternately ignores the house rabbits, or, chases them if they run.
Evie is tentative about some things. She is very scared during thunderstorms and doesn’t like to go outside in the dark. This gal doesn’t know how to play yet.
She is just now figuring out what toys are. She knows “sit” and “come” and is learning her name. Evie is starting to relax and gain confidence, and, her foster family is learning more about her daily.
Her foster family can see that she is very sweet and loves attention. She will be a wonderful companion in her forever home.
