Original: When Ervin arrived in northern Virginia, he was horribly matted, dirty, smelly, and scared. Even in this condition, it was immediately evident that he was a very, very, sweet boy. Ervin went straight from the airport to the vet. He lay quietly in the car and was very well-behaved while the vet examined him, cleaned his ears, and gave him all of his vaccinations. The next stop was his foster home where his foster mom did her best to clip the mats and bathe him and he never complained. He has since been professionally groomed and is looking quite handsome. At a thin 36 pounds, he is happily working on gaining some weight. He loves his food and treats and has shown no food aggression whatsoever.
Ervin gets along with the resident Springers very well. He is still rather timid but each day gains confidence as he feels more secure. He is working on housetraining and has only had a few accidents in the house. He will go right into his crate, though sometimes he will cry for a short time, if he thinks he is missing out on something exciting that’s happening elsewhere in the house. When he first got off the plane, he sat his little behind on the tarmac and refused to walk on the leash. He is now progressing very nicely on the leash. He is moderately active and not hyper.
Ervin is sometimes frightened by sudden movements, or people approaching him too quickly. He was very startled by two neighborhood children walking up to him while he was on the leash. He pulled his head out of the leash and ran to hide in the carport. He has not been introduced to any other children at this point. With adults, Ervin is very affectionate. He loves to follow his foster mom, lean on her, and look up for reassurance that everything is ok. He is devoted and loving, and with a little time and consistent training to boost his confidence, he will be a wonderful companion.
