Update 06/06/09: All the news on precious Emmie is great! She spent some time with her original foster family recently while the second family was away. When her second foster mom returned, her first thought was “My, how she’s grown!!”. The weight gain is healthy and normal for a pup her age. She is eating hard and soft puppy chow and drinking water from a bowl. She seems to be weaned from Greta but still wants her nearby.
Emmie is very active and has a sweet personality. She wants to give lots of kisses. Feisty is how her foster mom describes her.
She and her litter mates love to play with toys and have destroyed several. They love to climb all over the two elderly resident Springers and want to play with them. With time to sit and watch this group, their foster mom can’t tell if any one of the pups is the alpha yet. They all seem to have their moments of being the top pup. It just depends on the game they are playing. They are beginning the normal puppy chewing stage and will chew anything. They seem to play more than sleep now.
While it is apparent that Emmie is a Springer mix, her heart is pure ESS. She is ready to be adopted! In other words, she and her litter mates are too much for one person to handle! Greta and her foster families have done a great job with giving Emmie her start in life. As their work draws to an end, it is just beginning for an eagerly awaiting adopting family. Is that you?
Update 05/20/09: Busy, busy, busy! Emmie and her litter mates are adorable and are really “feeling their oats” now. They are playing among themselves, with their mother and with the resident Springer in their foster home. In normal puppy fashion, they fall asleep many times a day.
Individuality has started to show. Emmie is a sweet girl who likes to “fight” with the boys.
Emmie, as well as the other puppies, doesn’t always like changes. Their foster mom has been exposing them to the outdoors and grass and they whine about it! Their foster mom is working on potty training them, and Greta is working on weaning them. Emmie and her siblings love people and want to crawl all over them at every opportunity. They like to nibble and give kisses. They are very sweet and very cute and will be ready to love on their new families soon!
Original: Emmie entered the world one day after her mother came into MAESSR’s care. A very young adult herself, Greta was “ready to pop” as they say and delivered 6 healthy puppies on the day after she was pulled from a shelter in North Carolina by a MAESSR volunteer.
Greta has a soft, beautiful look and so do her pups. Their eyes are open now and all are gaining weight. She and an attentive foster mom have been very busy caring for the growing family. As their individual personalities begin to emerge, updates will be added.
For now, please enjoy the pictures of Emmie and her litter mates, Alfie III, Arlie, Callie II, Kerbie, and Cuddy, each on its own MAESSR webpage. They don’t stay this size for long!
