Original: “Too short to counter-surf and too well-behaved to jump on people, Emma loves pets and just wags away when given attention.”
Emma and her litter brother, Jesse, were bought as pups from a small breeder at the horse stable where her prior owners’ daughters rode. When the owners moved out of state, a friend kept the dogs in West Virginia. When that friend was leaving for graduate school, the owners contacted MAESSR and drove eight hours to get these two to a foster home.
Though Emma and her brother were both outside dogs, with shelter in an outbuilding in the winter, they’ve taken immediately to the indoor life, and neither has had a single accident inside. Emma signals that she wants to go out by gently pawing at the door. The first night in foster, she howled comically when crated, so she was left just gated in a safe area. Realizing that the comfy crate was the best bed around, she slept in it anyway and has quietly tolerated being crated since. After the first few nights, her foster mom just leaves the crate open.
Gentle and sweet, Emma has great house manners. Too short to counter-surf and too well-behaved to jump on people, she loves pets and just wags away when given attention. Emma will jump up on the outside picnic table for pets but so far hasn’t gotten on furniture inside. She’s fine on leash, focusing on her humans, and she loves car rides.
Not yet playing with toys, she and her brother will occasionally tussle each other and run around for fun. Time will tell if she’ll fall into the habit of chasing the resident hound around the yard. On walks, she greets other dogs and humans with a Springer smile. She and her brother eat and drink out of the same bowl if only one is given; otherwise, there’s no rivalry about helping each other finish up what’s left if one finishes earlier than the other. With the resident dogs, Emma’s debating about treating them the way she does her brother. Quiet inside and just hanging out near her foster mom during the day, this attentive gal is always ready for a walk if one is offered.
Emma came into foster care groomed and is reportedly fine with it. She has no issues with her foster parents handling her ears or paws and she loves the attention of being brushed.
Emma would probably prefer to be adopted with her brother since they get along so well, often sleeping butt to butt and moving in unison when trotting around the yard or walking in tandem. But her foster folks know that’s not always possible, so they are testing her to see how she does independently of him and vice versa. One way or the other, this is one small sweet package of a Springer.Consider bringing both Emma and Jesse into your family! Twice the fun and twice the love!
