Update 01/29/08:
Eloise, or Miss Ellie as she is called by her foster mom, had a special outing of late. She was taken to the pet store to choose a toy but rejected all in favor of playing with three little boys, ages 5, 7, and 9, that she met there. This little girl is the most loving and easy-going dog her foster mom has ever seen.
At home Ellie loves a good run after the squirrels in the yard and recently has shown a new talent in the house. She dances on her back legs and looks on the counter, never touching the counter with her paws, mind you, which takes counter surfing to a whole new level. What a girl!!
Miss Ellie is ready for her new beginning and will gladly settle with any family who shares life’s special joys that each day brings as she does…
Original:
Eloise’s owner turned her in to a shelter in eastern West Virginia. The family was moving and did not have any time for her. Apparently much of her previous life had been spent outdoors. She was matted upon arrival but clean as a pin weeks later when she came into MAESSR’s care. She did great with the vet during her exam and is in excellent health. She weighs 41.7 pounds, is a bit on the short side and carries her full fluffy tail with pride.
In her foster home, Ellie is very easy going. She will let you pick her up, remove her food bowl and take a toy away. She has not met children since in her foster home, but the shelter staff said that whenever someone with children came to see her on visitation, Ellie would curl up in their laps. With a little more time, her foster mom will introduce her to neighborhood children to see this firsthand.
Ellie is living with one very large resident ESS female who is quite the alpha. It took 3-4 days, as is common, for both to adjust to sharing the home. The resident barked and grumbled at Ellie on several occasions, mostly due to jealousy. Ellie grumbled back once when the resident tried to get her treat. Ellie is now getting along fine with her canine housemate. Ellie has also met a cocker who is smaller than herself and she is fine with her too. Her foster mom feels that Ellie probably would like another dog to play with her, but possibly one not as assertive as her dog. Ellie also shares the house with cats and ignores them. Yahoo!!
This sweetheart has a love of living inside and the house manners to go with it. Ellie is house-trained and is not a counter surfer or a trash picker. She has tried to get on the sofa a couple times and gets down right away when her foster parents say a stern “NO.” She does not growl and displays no aggressive tendencies or behavior. She sleeps on a bed that her foster mom made for her on the floor next to her own bed. Her foster mom is working on crate-training with Ellie. It’s going slowly, but it’s going. Once Ellie is in, she is fine and has been left for about 4 hours with no problem.
One of Ellie’s loves is to take car rides. She also loves walks and is working on not pulling ahead in her enthusiasm to see what’s next. She has discovered toys. In just the last few days, she went into the toy bin of the resident ESS, picked out one from the stash and had a great time with it. There’s no knowing if she has ever had her own, so her family is going to a pet store to let Ellie pick out a couple firsthand.
Ellie is going to make some family a wonderful addition. She is full of love for everyone and takes in all that is given to her as well. She is just looking for someone to share all the love she has to give. That someone could be you!!!!!
