Updated 11/10/05: With good veterinary care and loving attention in her foster home, Ellie’s health is much improved. She has regained a normal weight with worming and regular meal times. She has put a urinary tract infection behind her, too. Her vet started her on a nutritional supplement to support joint health and she is moving much better already, even becoming frisky at times!
Eloise remains a really sweet lady and a welcome house guest. She does well with young children. She loves to follow them around and takes treats easily. Needless to say, she is a hit with them, too. She enjoys short walks, and though still a little shy when meeting new people, she quickly comes around. Another favorite activity for her is a car ride. She’s always ready to go when her leash is put on.
Like so many senior springers, Ellie is a wonderful, well-mannered companion. She is undemanding, but with her gentle nature, she invites petting, cuddling, and attention. She’s almost ready for her forever family. Can you be the loving person that this gal really deserves?
Original: Eloise, now called Ellie by her foster family, is a very sweet older springer. Found as a stray, it’s guessed that she’s about 9 years young and she has a full tail. She was extremely underweight when she came to her foster home. She was started on extra meals to get some weight back on her frame and she didn’t seem to mind the special attention at all. She has been gaining pounds and with that, she is becoming more active. As is common to see in aging dogs, she has a touch of cataracts and hip dysplasia. She’s on glucosamine and chondroitin for the hip problem, and even though she moves a little slowly, she loves to follow her foster family around.
Ellie loves the attention when the grandkids, ages 7 and 2, visit, too. She is very loving and at times playful. She’s very gentle when she takes her treats and really enjoys them. Recently, she broke into a trot when she discovered the treats were being offered at the other end of the yard. She must have been an inside dog in her past life as she hasn’t had any accidents in the house. She is scared of storms and will gladly curl up on her bed in the laundry room or in a crate in the garage.
There are resident springers and a cat in Ellie’s foster home and she gets along well with all of them. She doesn’t appear to know any commands but is very patient when waiting in the “sit” line for a treat or hanging with the rest of the gang when they are told to “stay” She has discovered tennis balls again and carries them around. She will occasionally drop one and spend a few minutes going after it.
She’s due back to the vet in early September for a recheck and will hopefully be ready for the right forever family after that. This well-behaved sweetie deserves a loving home! Could it be yours?
