Elmer is an intact male and will be neutered when his pneumonia is gone. He has a good temperament but can be a little food aggressive to other dogs but is is not too bad. Elmer currently has a severe case of pneumonia but other than that, health is good. He is HW- and was given rabies only at this time because we were afraid his system could not handle any more vaccines at the moment. He will get all vaccinations before being placed. He came into foster care with a major case of hookworms and whipworms but has been treated for that.
Elmer and his brother came into rescue from the Henrico Co Animal Control office in Henrico, VA. They had been picked up as strays. It was obvious from observing both of them that they had NEVER had anyone be nice to them. Elmer does not feel very well at this time.
Elmer was SCARED to death when he came here…to the point that I had to carry him where ever he needed to go, because he would not walk. He would flinch every time you moved around him. He was terrified of the ceiling fans. He would not come close to you voluntarily. I am happy to report that after 10 days at my house, Elmer now follows us from room to room wanting to be close to us. He likes to be petted and loved. He is getting more used to it everyday. He will still stiffen up if you move too quickly with him; for this reason, we would not recommend he be placed with small children. It has been like watching a rose open to see how quickly he has come to trust that we will be nice to him.
I would bet my life that Davis or Elmer had never seen the inside of a house. Elmer has had a couple of accidents in the house. He is quickly figuring out that he does not want to mess up his house and have to go outside to live.
Elmer is a really nice boy! Do you have it in your heart…to heal his heart?
Update:
Elmer has found the home to help heal his heart!
