Update 04/20/2013: “Elles has quickly won over hearts since becoming a MAESSR boy.”
Elles has quickly won over hearts since becoming a MAESSR boy. He is a dog who would love to live in a house with young children. He doesn’t steal their toys. He has gone to work with his foster mom and has played with the toddler she nannies for. He is very gentle and wags his tail when he hears squeals of delight.
Like most springers, he would love a fenced-in yard to patrol and to protect from those pesky squirrels. Elles doesn’t want much in the way of material things. There’s no need to buy fancy dog beds because he prefers to sleep in a crate (plastic solid-kennel type) with a couple of baby blankets. He likes the crate door to stay open and will come and check on you while you sleep. Elles loves sitting on the couch. His foster family always leaves the TV on for him when gone away. He does seem to watch it!
Healthwise, Elles has gained much-needed weight on a quality grain-free dog food. He likes it really well. He says it’s tasty and always gives his mom a kiss afterwards. He is being treated for an ear infection. He hates his ears being messed with but has accepted the medicine because it makes him feel better. Elles is also being treated for a recurring bout of Lyme disease. The vet’s counsel is that, as long as he is fed well and kept healthy, his Lyme disease will not be an issue over the long haul. Elles takes his medicine with cheese. Yummy, he loves cheese! The medicine has caused his tummy to be upset so he has been getting a special treat……pumpkin. The staff at the vet’s office says Elles is very well behaved. The vet said he is a perfect patient, especially for one with limited vet care.
Elles responds to you talking to him. He is pulling less with more experience on a leash. He loves other dogs and the dog park. His foster family has come to love him and knows an adopting family will too. One thought from Elles to his adopting family: it’s OK to change his name; he doesn’t particularly like it………;)).
Original: “He comes to his people and kisses them for attention and likes to follow them around without getting under their feet.”
Ellesworth was a pet store pup who lived with an older dog and a rabbit in a Pennsylvania home until the family’s move to an apartment brought MAESSR into his life.
This tolerant fellow had limited exposure to vets and health checkups, but was a perfect patient as he had his blood tested and was brought UTD on his vaccines. He’s not happy about baths, but knows they are something to be endured, and while he has never experienced a formal grooming, he does love to be brushed. He’ll be back to see his vet shortly for neutering and a needed super duper ear cleaning.
Ellesworth seems to love everybody. He comes to his people and kisses them for attention and likes to follow them around without getting under their feet. He knows “sit,” “down,” “paw,” “stay” (for a short time) and “off.” He’d make a good baseball outfielder with his ability to catch toys in the air, but don’t ask him to play fetch. Carrying a stuffed toy is more his style. A mellow fellow, Ellesworth can be a couch potato and enjoys curling up next to his foster mom, either on the couch or floor.
He is crate trained and uses one now when he’s ready for some peace and quiet. He is loose when alone in his foster mom’s apartment and does not bother anyone else’s food or belongings. He has overcome his fear of stairs and, as he becomes more secure, is learning not to whine when he’s excited or nervous. Ellesworth sleeps on the carpet next to his foster mom’s bed although she suspects he might be happier at the foot of the bed!
This young man eats just a little bit of his food at a time and prefers his foster mom to be around while he nibbles. He is not treat driven and his “begging” consists of politely lying at his mom’s feet. He is being given extra food to help him gain some needed weight.
Ellesworth likes to watch the wildlife and playing children through the patio door of his apartment, but knows that walks begin at the front door. A martingale type collar and vocal commands are helping him learn not to pull. He even passed a stroller test, walking nicely next to one and accepting other strollers that came his way. Good boy, Ellesworth! Car trips are a treat for this well-behaved rider.
MAESSR’s new boy would love to steal your place on the couch as well as your heart. He’s the dog for anyone who wants a buddy and is willing to lavish him with the love and attention he needs. He’d love to hike with a family, play in the yard with kids or just hang out with his folks. How about making him part of your home?
