Ella was surrendered by her family in New Jersey because they were embarking on RV living and they felt that Ella needed more room and a yard as she is an energetic girl who loves to run. Now that she’s a MAESSR girl, she’s looking for the perfect forever family.
Previously Ella lived with four children and a cat. She liked to play with the cat but the cat just tolerated Ella. After an adjustment period, she has learned to play well with the resident Springer. They like to wrestle together and have learned to not squabble over toys. Care is needed around high value toys though. They also can be found napping near each other during the day.
Ella does not trash drive or counter-surf. She loves walks and being outdoors but pulls on leash when she sees rabbits or squirrels as she has a high prey drive. This includes while walking in a harness. When Ella came to her foster home she was not crate trained but fully housetrained. In a matter of days, Ella was able to sleep quietly all night in a crate with encouragement and lots of high value treats. Ella is also crated during the day when her foster family is out and will bark upon entering the crate but settles down. The crate still isn’t her favorite thing and will need to be re-enforced with her forever home if a crate is something they wish to utilize.
Ella loves playing with any and all toys but, like a typical puppy, she enjoys tearing up soft toys so her focus needs to be redirected a lot of times. She is very good about leaving her humans’ items alone, only occasionally sneaking a shoe or two. She likes to bring them into another room but never chews on them. As Ella is crated, it is not known how she would be with personal items if left home alone with free run of the house. Ella knows “sit” and “come,” although her recall outside is not very reliable; therefore she should not be trusted off leash at this time. Ella does bark at passersby and when people come into the house. She will jump on others to get her opportunity to say hi. Ella rides well in the car and did well at the vet’s office.
In her foster home Ella has gotten very attached to her foster mom but hasn’t warmed to her foster dad as much. Developing trust needs to continue to be worked on. She is fed in another room from the resident Springer because she is not fond of others in her dining space. This girl has a very good appetite and takes treats nicely. Since Ella is still young, she needs to continue to learn boundaries with people, dogs, and food.
Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. MAESSR will be requiring two series of obedience classes for this cutie pie to ensure she has every chance of success in her forever home.
