When Elke found herself at a Virginia shelter, she was first rescued by a local rescue group who then contacted MAESSR about finding her a wonderful forever home. She is now well-loved and happy in her MAESSR foster home.
Housetrained, Elke has good inside manners and sleeps through the night on her dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. There has been no need to crate her since she is so trustworthy. Elke will cry and whine for a while when her foster family leaves the house, but settles down quickly and can be found snoozing on the couch when they get back. Although she has been presented with plenty of opportunities to do so, Elke has not been interested in counter-surfing. Good girl! She will, however, stare at the person making or eating the food, hoping to get a bite.
This active, mature Springer is 99.9% fine with the seven resident dogs and has done very well meeting other dogs that come to the house. Elke has bonded very quickly with her foster dad and sometimes does not like when other dogs come too close when she is with him. Then, she will give a low warning and sometimes a quick snap at the intruding canine but stops when she is corrected. She eats her food around the seven other dogs without problem and allows her foster family to put their hands around her bowl.
This medium-sized Springer loves to play now that she is fully recovered from her spay surgery. Elke adores petting and attention and will follow her people around in the house to make sure she gets her share! With lots of energy, Elke loves to play with her tennis balls and go for long walks. When out for a walk, she pulls on the leash initially, but settles in after a short while. She has a big deep bark and will alert you if other people are on the trail. Here, too, she settles down nicely after announcing their presence. Elke loves to ride in the car and is a pleasant passenger.
Although she would thrive in many different environments, Elke would most likely want to be part of a much smaller pack of dogs. Oh, she also wants loving humans who will lavish her with love and attention! Does this describe your family? Elke is waiting!
