Update 12/16/2015:“He is eating very well now and no longer receives his foster mom’s home cooked meals (sigh).”
This handsome fellow has settled nicely into his foster home. He is eating very well now and no longer receives his foster mom’s home cooked meals (sigh).
Eli has a moderate prey drive and will chase small dogs, cats, squirrels, etc., if allowed. But he is a great listener and will abandon his target when he hears a stern voice. He is happy to ignore cats that walk by him with their usual “cattitude,” but those who have the nerve to run past are chased until Eli hears that verbal command; then he retreats and comes for kisses. He has not shown any aggression toward indoor or feral cats. In his foster home, he no longer chases anything, but his furever owner will need to establish strict guidelines. He does go on furniture and sleeps in a bed…seems to be what he expects!
Eli is very submissive and has no possession issues. He will take a bone or toy but not stand his ground if anyone attempts to take it away. This guy is developing his personality and strengths without showing any aggressionWhat a love this young man is!! He will fit into almost any home and adjust to big or small dogs and cats that live there. Wouldn’t you like to build a snowman or snow dog with the help of your very own Springer?
Original: “His most favorite thing to do is curling up and getting a belly rub while falling asleep…ahh!”
Eli and his brother, Mojo, came from Tennessee when family changes required finding these sweet boys a new home. Formerly outside dogs, they both love the change in status since arriving at their foster home. Concerned that going outdoors might be a permanent arrangement, they make sure that their foster mom is coming with them before they venture outside!
It was discovered that he and his brother have a case of kennel cough and they are currently receiving treatment. Although they had to be separated from the resident dogs and are staying in a separate room, they are already feeling much better and should make a full recovery in a week or two.
Eli’s foster mom finds him to be such a sweet guy! He’s also a goofy boy who craves love. Well-behaved, Eli knows basic commands. He is housetrained and will cry to get his foster mom’s attention to be let outside. While he doesn’t really appreciate the confines of a crate, Eli is trustworthy and non-destructive; therefore a crate is unnecessary. His most favorite thing to do is curling up and getting a belly rub while falling asleep…ahh! Toys and bones are fun too – and there are no guarding issues – but actually he’d rather get attention from a human than play with toys. Prior to his confinement, Eli was learning boundaries and how to share, but he never showed any aggression. He’s learning polite leash behavior and he is open to meeting new people and other dogs when out on a walk. When it comes to riding in a car, Eli is all for it and willingly jumps in.
Eli’s first outing with his foster mom was a visit to the vet. He was quite the gentleman and very well-behaved. It was discovered that he is quite underweight and his foster mom is helping him put on those necessary pounds. In fact, if he’s not eating enough, she has been enticing him with cooked chicken and rice. What a lucky dog!
This sweet boy would love a forever family and home to call his own. What a wonderful addition Eli would make to some lucky family.
