Poor Eli has had few breaks during his young life. His original owner died suddenly and he has been passed around to four or five different people, most of whom have not given Eli the care, love and attention that he needs. The current owners took Eli from the place he was living when that owner was going to bring Eli to the shelter. They picked up a dog badly matted and infested with fleas, and soon cleaned him up, groomed him, and got rid of his fleas. Although these owners loved him and saved Eli from a neglectful home, they knew they could not keep him because of their current living situation. So, they contacted MAESSR knowing we could help Eli and find him the right family where he would thrive.
This Velcro boy is a total sweetheart who loves to be with his people! Eli is a lover boy who cuddles with you in bed at night and makes sure there is no chance you will get cold! He gets very excited when his foster family comes home from work and jumps up to greet them. Even if you just go for the mail, he is very excited when you return. Eli is a sensitive boy and reportedly gets very frightened when people yell, perhaps a reaction to volatile previous homes. Eli is housetrained and holds his urine with no problem. A doggie door and a big fenced yard are perfect for Eli. His foster family has multiple resident and foster dogs in it and Eli is getting along fine with them, playing and running with the younger ones. In one of his previous homes, he also had a back yard and liked to run the fence line with a dog friend who lived on the other side. Most recently he lived with two other very small dogs and he did well with them. Eli will chase cats, though, so a feline-free forever home would be best.
Despite never receiving any formal obedience training, Eli knows sit and responds to his name. His leash walking skills need some improvement, but he loves to go for a walk and sniff; off leash, Eli is fine and stays right with his people. He rides beautifully in the car, settling in quickly to watch the scenery or sleep. He is good for home bathing but has never been professionally groomed. A very patient, tolerant boy, Eli does not mind having his feet or ears handled.
This handsome Springer is interested in food his people may have but he isn’t an obnoxious beggar, nor does he counter-surf. At night he best enjoys sleeping in bed with his humans and he is used to jumping up on furniture, getting down compliantly if told to do so.
Eli does not like to be crated nor is he comfortable being alone. If he has another dog or a person with him, he is perfect. In his multiple-dog foster home, he has been fine when his foster parents go to work and leave him with his canine friends. He is happy to see them when they return, but he is not destructive in the house. Eli definitely needs at least one canine companion in his forever home.
Eli is a really great boy who is going to make someone extremely happy.
