Dude has lived a wonderful life with just one owner. Unfortunately, Dude’s owner died. The family’s vet cared enough for Dude to ensure that he would have a good home, so she arranged for his care and his future with MAESSR. When his foster mom picked him up, she told him that MAESSR would make sure we found him a wonderful home, and he trusts us to do just that. He hopped in the car, settled in, and was ready to begin his new life as a MAESSR dog.
Dude has met a few other dogs on his walks around the neighborhood and was very friendly. He has already seen a couple of cats and, while a bit curious, he seemed accustomed to cats. Dude is very interested in the birds and squirrels that run around the neighborhood and he would chase them if given the opportunity. And speaking of walking, Dude loves to go for walks and is very well-behaved on a leash. He has been using a flexi-leash so he can run ahead and explore, but he always turns to ensure his foster mom is nearby.
Initially, Dude was very nervous in his foster home and would get distraught– crying and chewing inappropriately– if his foster mom left even for a short time. He also marked a few times. These negative behaviors have dissipated as he has gotten used to being in his foster home. Dude has responded positively to verbal correction when he has marked. Unlike any other Springer who has crossed through the doors of his experienced foster mother’s house, Dude does not seem to be motivated by food. He nibbles when he is hungry.
When Dude arrived, his ears were very matted. He was very patient as his foster mom worked on his ears for nearly two hours as they sat together on the couch watching television. She got every single mat out and he was such a good little boy through it all. Dude is very, very affectionate and will hop up on the couch or bed and snuggle in. It is obvious that Dude has slept in bed with his owner his whole life so Dude needs to find a family that values a little extra heat in the bed and that appreciates a fifty-pound lap dog sharing the couch with them.
Is your home in need of some extra Springer loving? If so, Dude might just be the special dog for you.
