Update 05/20/09: Rain or shine, Duck is doing wonderfully in his foster home. He gets along great with all children, loves the company of the family Springer and cats. He is still 98% housebroken and his foster mom is starting to catch on to his clues that he needs to go outside. When he starts pacing around the house, she leads him outside and he immediately takes care of his needs.
Duck is a true “gentle man” and loves to walk on his leash and will sit and give his paw for a treat. He loves to get attention and will sit by your side for a nice rub. When it is time for a nap, Duck just walks right into his crate or dog bed and curls up. Duck’s foster home is enjoying his company very much and knows that he will be a wonderful addition to any home. He is a true gentle soul that just wants to give and get hugs. How could one resist a Duck like this!!
Original: Poor Duck came to MAESSR from a shelter in western Virginia. He was turned in by a person who surrendered 9 dogs, including a mom and 1-week-old puppies, because the family could not afford to care for them. The shelter contacted MAESSR, and this lucky boy got into a foster home quickly.
Duck is very sweet and affectionate. He will stand by you all day so you can pet him. He is a tall Springer, but that just means it is easier to reach for hugs. Duck rides well in the car and enjoys being with you and doing anything you want.
Crate trained and about 98% house broken at this point makes Duck easy to bring into one’s home. He would benefit from an obedience class with his adopting family to brush up on some basics. He walks fairly well on a leash and loves to ride in the car. Duck has not counter surfed in his foster home yet, but he is tall enough to be a champion should an irresistible temptation present itself.
Duck had a massive infestation of hookworms when he came to his foster home. He was fairly thin and could probably stand to gain around 5 pounds. He also tested mildly positive for Lyme disease. Since he is not symptomatic at this time, he is not being treated for that.
With as much rain as May is bringing, everyone needs a “Duck”. No quacking with this one, instead a cool nose at your side through the sunny days of summer.
