Update 12/31/2024: “Duchess’s foster dad doesn’t even have to get up with her at night as she uses the doggie door and goes outside on her own if she needs to relieve herself.”
Duchess is doing extremely well since joining her foster home a little over a month ago. She gets along very well with the other dogs and the resident cat. She has gone on rides, and she loves them. She recently visited a house with another Springer resident and had a ball playing outside with him.
Her allergies are much better, and her foster dad has cut her medicated bathes back to once per week. She eats well on the ProPlan Salmon and Rice kibble and a spoonful of wet dog food mixed in. She receives allergy medicine once per day and thyroid medicine twice per day. The result is her chest coat is filling in and the rest of her coat is growing out as well. Her skin seems to be in a healthier state.
Duchess’s foster dad doesn’t even have to get up with her at night as she uses the doggie door and goes outside on her own if she needs to relieve herself. Night lights are placed around the house for the dogs to see. Duchess comes back in and promptly lies on her bed until morning. She would definitely like to get on the bed if another Springer had not already claimed that spot!
Duchess arrived with anxiety meds in case they were needed, but her foster dad has not given her any. He leaves the house at various times, and she does nothing inappropriate. This could be because she has the resident dogs to hang with. Typically, when her foster dad leaves, she goes outside with another dog and watches him back out of the driveway. He has observed her on Ring cameras when he is away, and she is outside or lying down inside the house. She loves to wander around outside in the backyard.
Duchess will soon be ready for her forever home that has other animals to provide company or her new family mostly at home. She would not like being crated as this would stress her out.
Duchess is a VERY sweet dog and would love to lie on your lap all day long. Are you ready for this royal treatment?
Original: “Duchess does not play much with toys but enjoys just being with her foster dad whether inside or outside.”
Duchess came to MAESSR when her Virginia owner had to take residence in a nursing home. This sweet Springer had been with him since she was a puppy and was “Daddy’s little girl.” They were inseparable.
Duchess is very well-mannered in the house and has free run to a fenced outside yard through a dog door. She pals around in the yard with the two resident dogs and does well when her foster caregiver is away. She, like the resident Springers, is glad when foster dad comes home and she does a little Springer spin showing her excitement! When going to the vet, Duchess rides well in the car and does fine on a leash. She had done well on a leash with her prior owner, but now has a nice big yard at her foster home and does not get regular leash walks. Inside she is allowed on the furniture and will take a spot there or on her dog bed on the floor.
Duchess does well at the groomer getting her ears cleaned and toenails trimmed. She eats twice per day and is excitedly vocal to be fed. Her meals consist of kibble and a spoonful of wet food to provide interest. Duchess knows “sit” and politely accepts her milkbone dog treats.
When Duchess came to her foster home, her skin was red and scabby. Consistent medicine and medicated baths have greatly helped her. Duchess had a history of allergies and was fed sensitive skin and stomach food. She was tested for low thyroid and her low levels proved that to be true. A low cost thyroid medicine has been prescribed and she is responding very well to it.
Duchess does not play much with toys but enjoys just being with her foster dad whether inside or outside. She likes to walk the yard and investigate the many smells. She sleeps in an open crate in the bedroom and is very good about going to bed.
Duchess would do well in her forever home with other pets and a generally quiet atmosphere. She loves the companionship provided by other animals. Her Grace will be glad to become your little girl!
