Dreamer was found as a stray and was in very bad shape when he was picked up from the shelter. He smelled terrible and his fur was so matted that the only thing to do was to shave most of it off.
Underneath all the matted fur, he was just skin and bones. He was obviously on the streets for an extended period of time to have lost that much body mass. He was suffering from a parasitic infection which is currently being treated with antibiotics and this could have contributed to his weight loss. He is eating and drinking everything in sight and his foster family can see the weight coming back almost daily.
He was estimated to be about 3 years old but his foster family thinks he is much younger. He is still puppy-biting although very gently, his teeth look very young and he is extremely energetic. They feel he may be no older than 18 months or so. He seemed to have some house training issues when he first arrived but the foster family thinks that he may have been so dehydrated and famished at first that he became overwhelmed when he was given plenty to eat and drink. He is rapidly improving in this area but still has a little way to go before the foster family completely trusts him. He can hold everything for at least 7 hours at night so there doesn’t seem to be any health issues involved.
He loves to tease the resident dogs to entice them to chase him all over the house. He even resorts to play biting their tails and ears when they show no interest in playing! He does not seem to know what to do with a ball and will not bring anything back for the foster family. He is very loving and gentle and absolutely soaks up any attention he can get. He loves to lie on any available lap and loves being the center of attention. He will try to get up on the furniture but is quickly learning the down command. He did not know any commands at all and shows no signs of any training. He is a quick learner and will now sit to get attention from his foster mom. He is not happy to be in the crate at night and takes a little while to settle down. The foster family has found that he does better when they leave him in the crate downstairs in the kitchen as opposed to bringing him up to the bedroom. The resident dogs are loose in the bedroom and he goes crazy to get out and play with them. When left downstairs alone, he settles down much more quickly. He knows when the foster family gets up in the morning and will bark non-stop until someone comes to let him out of the crate.
Dreamer has a beautiful face and is very curious about everything and everyone. He especially loves children and will play for hours with any child who comes near him. When he has been walked to the park on a leash, he strains desperately to get to any children he sees. He obviously has never been on a leash but is learning to heel as long as there are no distractions! He definitely does not like loud noises, such as the fire alarm and motorcycles and is very skittish when walking near moving traffic, probably due to having been alone on the streets for a time.
Can you help Dreamer fulfill his dream of a loving home where he will get all the love and attention he deserves?
