Introducing Doyle! This sweet puppy was found as a stray and taken to a shelter in New Jersey. After about a week in the shelter, MAESSR stepped in and he was moved to his foster home.
Like most puppies, Doyle loves to run (and run), play with toys of all kinds, and enjoy life to the fullest. His specialty is chasing and retrieving balls. He will return them once he realizes there is a treat reward for dropping the ball. He has a great personality, loves people, and is calm and peaceful when petted.
The resident 4 year old Springer has had some reservations about Doyle’s visit since Doyle likes to keep all the toys to himself. Doyle desperately wants to play with him, but his playful puppy approach may be too insistent. As a result, Doyle (and his future family!) will probably be happiest if the resident dog can tolerate, if not enjoy, a puppy’s energy level. While there is a cat in Doyle’s foster home, they have managed to keep their distance and have yet to be introduced to one another.
Doyle has not yet had any experience with younger children but given his loving and playful personality, this is unlikely to be a problem. In fact, a home with someone who can play (and play) with Doyle is highly recommended. In addition to playing in the backyard, Doyle loves his walks. He is learning not to pull on the leash and enjoys walking with his resident Springer, as long as he always leads the way. At this time, Doyle is not crazy about car rides. He does not get sick but enjoys barking (and barking) at the other cars and chasing his shadows in the car-crate.
A smart pup, Doyle already knows the commands “sit” and “stop.” He is crate-trained and about 90% housetrained, as long as he is allowed outside on a regular basis. He sleeps in his crate at night and can also be kept in his crate during the day without accidents. While he enjoys his crate, Doyle would rather be out and about in the living area of his home. He has been allowed to roam the basement, kitchen, family room, and sun porch areas of his foster home without accidents or furniture hopping. He is quite a chow-hound who has no reservations about eating the resident Springer’s meals if the opportunity presents itself. However, he does not counter-surf or trash dive, and he understands that human food is not his food. With his excellent behavior and eagerness to learn, Doyle will really enjoy the obedience class that is a requirement of his adoption, as it is for all MAESSR dogs under a year old.
A forever home that knows the challenges of a puppy and is able to give Doyle lots of attention and provide him with regular exercise is a must for this boy. Of course, he’ll more than repay his forever family with his cute puppy antics and sweet puppy kisses!
