Sweet Dotz continues to make amazing progress in her foster home. This smart girl is learning how to be a well-behaved member of a family. The commands “sit,” “stay,” and “give paw” are part of her repertoire and, due to her training, she now expects a dog biscuit every time she is put into her crate. In fact, she runs into it happily and throws her paw at her human a few times without being asked. Very cute!
This high-energy girl would like to burst out of her crate to play, but if the door is opened slightly and she’s given the reminder “nice…,” she listens right away, calms down, and walks out calmly. She is a young girl and just needs some gentle reminding.Dotz is now fully housetrained. What a good girl! She also knows “leave it” when playing fetch and just loves this game. This beautiful, joyful girl loves playing with humans and really enjoyed playing with her canine friend, Polka, when they entered MAESSR together. She is great with children, cats, and dogs that are willing to put up her high energy. She’s a bit too energetic for the resident dogs in her foster home, as one has very bad legs and cannot risk any roughhousing. Her other foster sibling is too set in his ways to put up with a bouncy youngster, so Dotz spends her social time with them when they are crated and relaxing with her foster mom. Dotz will walk past them sniffing and the sniffing is returned, in kind. They all seem to enjoy this low-key socializing. While Dotz loves being around children, her foster mom feels that her energy level is such that small children could be knocked down unintentionally while playing. Other than that, she feels that Dotz would be a “100% perfect choice” for a family pet and loyal friend.
Treats that Dotz enjoys are raw knucklebones and Kong toys stuffed with a mix of baked potato, applesauce and powdered peanut butter. When frozen, these “Kongsicles” are her favorite treats!
Dotz’s foster mom emphasizes that she is just the all-around best dog! If circumstances were different, she would become a permanent resident of her current home. Instead, she will be greatly missed by her foster family and some lucky family will be blessed with a wonderful best friend. Don’t wait too long to claim this gorgeous girl!

Dotz is doing great in foster care. With just a month of consistent guidance from her foster mom, she has much better manners than when she arrived. Dotz can come out of her crate in a calm manner now. She has learned “sit” and “gimme your paw.” She will stop whatever she is doing outside, if up to mischief, when told “NO.” She’s gotten comfy with crating and no longer whines in the crate if you walk away. Overall, Dotz is a nicely-behaved girl and will make continuing strides with training in her adopting home.
A month has given her time to gain a little bit of weight too. She is seemingly very healthy and active……and her foster mom does mean ACTIVE. Dotz does love her time outdoors and burns off youthful energy daily with play and running.
Dotz is so ready to make someone the sweetest doggie girl ever. She has a soft personality and is a joy to be around. She is just so sweet. Her foster family is going to miss this one “BIG TIME” but knows an adopting family will love Dotz “BIG TIME” as soon as they meet her. She will love her family back “big time” too……just give her the chance to let it be you!!

Dotz, along with her buddy Polka, came to MAESSR after having been left at a North Carolina shelter.
A beautiful Springer mix (one of the most gorgeous girls her foster mom has ever seen), Dotz is a loving, sweet, and a true high-energy athlete who loves to play rough and tumble with her foster pal, Polka. She is less sociable with the two resident male dogs and the male foster. When one was checking her out at a distance, she grumbled at him and only stopped when she was firmly told “no!” Right now Dotz and Polka are crated when in the company of the three other males. All seem to like this as it calms them down and they relax. The resident cat wants nothing to do with Dotz and the other foster dogs in the house; however, Dotz has seen the cat from afar and didn’t show much interest in Madame Kitty.
Super loving to all humans, Dotz is very kissy and affectionate to her foster parents and their teenager. If she is crated and her people leave the room, she complains as she likes to be where they are. Her foster mom suspects that Dotz never lived indoors prior to coming into MAESSR’s care. Although she is used to the living room where the family gathers and the dogs are crated, when she goes into another room, Dotz is very apprehensive. She is feeling more comfortable in the kitchen area, but the hardwood floors in the hallway and the carpeted steps to the lower level are very scary for her. She’s not afraid of the front steps to the house, though; she can fly up and down those. Her foster mom is helping her deal with her anxiety by using her crate as a comfort zone with the other crated resident and foster dogs nearby. Time and patience and positive reinforcement will make a difference in Dotz’ acclimation to her new environment and to her new life of love.
Dotz keeps her crate dry at night—good girl—and goes outside with the other dogs on a regular basis. She is not yet left unsupervised in her foster home, but so far has not tried to jump on furniture, sniff the trash, guard her food or be protective of her toys. Dotz is also learning very quickly not to pull on her leash—smart girl! A bit anxious, she chews on sticks outside and has nibbled her crate mat occasionally. Her foster mom feels that will cease as she becomes more secure in her surroundings.
The immediate future holds many adjustments for this young lady. She will be learning to explore the rooms in her new home, to go up and down inside stairs, to eat politely outside her crate, to experience playtime with the other resident dogs, and, of course, to learn good Springer manners. Trips to the vet and groomer also await her. Obedience lessons are in Dotz’ future, too. Since she is still a puppy at a year old, please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs a year old and younger to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption. Dotz has a really special, exciting time ahead of her, and future updates are sure to brag about her positive progress!
A forever family for this lively girl needs to be one that truly enjoys outdoor activities; although Dotz will sit and relax with her people, she is a ball of fire who needs a lot of room to run and play!
