Dottie was found with her four puppies in an abandoned home by good Samaritan. He took her home, took care of her and the puppies until they were old enough to be placed, and then asked for MAESSR’s assistance in finding Ms. Dot a forever home. The family of the good Samaritan had already found homes for all the puppies.
Dottie is a smaller Springer weighing about 31 pounds. She is still recovering from the puppies and could put on a couple of more pounds. Dottie is perfectly housebroken, but does not like to be crated. She does not get on furniture and in fact feels a little insecure when she is on the furniture (like she is afraid she will get into trouble for being there). She does not counter surf, trash pick, chew, or jump on people.
Dottie is extremely sweet and loving. In the foster home’s opinion, her biggest negative is that she is a little bit of an escape artist. She will climb the fence, wander around for a few moments, and then comes to the door wanting to come in. We have been making progress with the come command, but it will need to be continually reinforced. The foster home feels that an obedience class would be an excellent way to start the bonding process with this beautiful little girl.
Dottie gets along well with other dogs. She has been around children as young as 8 and enjoyed it. We do not know about younger children.
Dottie has lived with a dog savvy cat. This cat knew how to play chase. If the cat ran, Dottie would chase. But Dottie would not hurt the cat. If the cat did not run, Dottie would not go after it. We will consider placing Dottie with dog savvy cats.
Dottie is not a really high energy springer. Her favorite activity is to sit looking at her foster dad like he is the “springer god”.
