Original: “His name may mean sleepy head in Spanish but don’t let that fool you! Dormilon LOVES toys!”
Dormilon was part of a litter of 8 that game into MAESSR’s care at 9 weeks when their Maryland owner became ill and could not care for them. He has since been fostered with two of his sisters and a brother. He was a sick little guy when he came into MAESSR’s care but he was a fighter. With the right care, a full belly, a warm bed and lots of love, he quickly bounced back.
His name may mean sleepy head in Spanish but don’t let that fool you! Dormilon LOVES toys! The squeakier the better! He may be the smallest of the litter but that doesn’t stop him; his people can always find him happily trotting around with his prize in his mouth. Dormy is both playful and a cuddle bug.
At 16 weeks, Dormy is still learning commands but knows “sit” and “come.” He responds to his name and is learning to walk on a leash. Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Dormy is a very smart little pup and will be a good pupil.
Dormy is working on housetraining but has work yet to do. He is crate trained and sleeps in the crate overnight with one of his siblings, keeping his crate dry. Good boy! While quiet at night, he is vocal when ready to get out for a bathroom break, breakfast or some cuddles come morning.
Dormilon is great with kids and has been toddler tested with a three year old. He loves someone to play with and happily lets the foster kids dress him up and carry him around like a baby doll. When he’s finished with dress-up play, he loves to engage his siblings in “Puppy Races” — one of his favorite games outside. Dormy has been fostered with his littermates as well as the six year old resident female Springer and the resident ten year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He has done well with all. He may be the smallest of the bunch but he holds his ground.
Dormy has been calm in the car during trips to the vet. He was always crated during these times. Dormy is fed inside his crate, also, and has shown no resource guarding. He loves treats during training but will leave his food bowl in favor of a cuddle or a toy. During bath time Dormy is a little timid but is calm and lets his foster mom clip his nails easily. Of course, he is a fan favorite at the vet!
Don’t let this sleepy head slip by you! Make him a member of your family!
