Update 07/14/2014: “When it’s time for his meal, he rounds the corner into the kitchen and ‘slides into home’ for his bowl.”
It simply has to swell one’s heart to see disadvantaged dogs adapt to a normal life when given the opportunity. Domino is no exception; indeed, he is doing great. He had a few housebreaking issues a couple of weeks ago. Since his foster family figured out his pattern, he’s much happier (and so are they)!
This head-turner’s come out of his shell tremendously. He used to need to be almost carried into the yard to do his “business.” He now RUNS into the yard with his tail waving in the air. He still loves being close to his foster mom but is gaining independence daily. When she first let him out in the fenced yard and off-lead, he would just stand there and wait for her. Now he is an explorer! There’s a tail wagging, nose-to-the-ground doggie explorer……….very cute. When he’s ready to come inside, he RUNS to the back door and pushes it open with his paws. His new nickname is “Waggy Waggy” because his tail wags at every opportunity and it’s become his special reward phrase!
It’s hard to tell if Domino’s gained any weight but this boy LOVES to eat. He barks when he sees the food bowl come out. When it’s time for his meal, he rounds the corner into the kitchen and “slides into home” for his bowl. He sits patiently (tail wagging, of course) waiting for his food and enthusiastically pushes his bowl around the kitchen while he eats.
Domino’s most recent adventure (or his family’s) was when he popped the lid off the galvanized container his food is stored in and proceeded to “help himself.” It was really funny to see and he loved being a “bad boy.”
This boy’s a total love bug. He met another MAESSR volunteer the other day and sat next to her, letting her sweet talk him until it was “outside” time. He’s a really great little guy and will bring much joy and amusement to one lucky adopting family!
Original: “Domino is a charming, sweet boy who longs for affection and looks for signals on appropriate behavior.”
When a Maryland breeder decided to close the kennel, MAESSR stepped in to help with the placement of the dogs. Included among the Springers was Domino, a stunning blue roan English Cocker Spaniel who now is an honorary MAESSR boy!
With beautiful markings and a wonderful temperament, Domino is a loving and happy boy who really enjoys being in a house setting. He also clearly loves the attention of his foster mom and “works it” with soulful glances, gentle tail wags, and the softest of kisses. He’s quickly learned that couch time is the BEST and happily hops up to get ear rubs and cuddles.
This handsome boy has impeccable leash manners and meets all people with a wagging tail and submissive demeanor. He LOVES riding in the car and especially enjoys being loved on when being put into the car. Domino looks for signals on appropriate behavior so he will be a good student when his forever family takes him for obedience training. Formal training will also deepen the bond with his forever family. Dom is mostly housetrained and feels extremely safe in his crate. When his foster mom isn’t home and at night (for now), Domino is crated and is content and quiet. Dom has lovely house manners with no counter-surfing, trash diving, or inappropriate chewing.
This darling boy loves treats, taking them sweetly and gently. Don’t worry about spoiling his figure with treats. The vet said Domino needs to gain a few pounds. He enjoys a good roll in green grass and a romp with his favorite toy ―a plush fish. When playtime is over, he then rests his head on it while he naps. He clearly knows how to melt hearts with his cuteness!
Although he has not had the opportunity to meet any children or cats yet, Domino is good with the two resident dogs, male and female Wire Fox Terriers. Domino is fed in the kitchen and loves his food. When he eats, his tail wags all the time. Domino is a dinner first and water later boy at mealtime.
Domino did well at the groomer although he was a bit intimidated by the hustle and bustle of the doggie spa. He was also friendly and happy at the vet. He tolerated the first vaccination well, but became more agitated through the second and third. Who can blame him?!
Domino’s a soft-hearted, soul dog. If you’re looking for a sweet boy to love on and enjoy, Domino is your boy! Always a gentle tail wag, always a nuzzle and always happy to sit as close as possible to his people. He would do best in a home with lots of love. While he has much to learn about life outside a kennel situation, he just wants to love and be loved. A fenced yard, lots of long walks, and bonding through formal obedience training will help him become more confident and only multiply his love factor! Inquire about Domino, the ultimate Soul Man!
