With all their adolescent exuberance, young Springers can be quite a handful. Even for the best-intentioned owner, this can end up being too much. When Diego’s Virginia family had trouble handling his journey into adulthood, they looked to MAESSR for help with finding him a home where he’d be able to get the love, attention, training, and exercise he needs.
This 55 pound, beautiful boy has a goofy smile and a wonderful personality that makes him a joy to have around. He was a bit too exuberant with the very young children in his previous home but has been around children as young as 6 in his foster home and has done very well with them.
Diego went to puppy obedience but probably needs a refresher course to reinforce some manners. He is crate-trained and in the past has spent quite a bit of time in his crate; however, he now enjoys full freedom in the house with no trouble as he is reliably housetrained. Diego eats his meals with seven resident dogs and he does fine with them and with people around his food bowl. He sleeps with all the other dogs in the bedroom and tries to get his spot in the bed. Diego loves to play…anything, anytime, anywhere and it is reported that he loves the water.
Although Diego is not normally a big barker, he barks when he is watching the other dogs play and when he is playing chewy-face with the other dogs; then, he tends to sound like Chewbacca! When it is walk time, Diego sports a no-pull harness and does fine. It is unknown how he would be off lead since he mostly let out to play and do his business in the fenced backyard. He does well in the car but making sure he is secure is a good idea.
At his foster home, Diego has not needed grooming, but his former family reported that he has been professionally groomed without trouble. Although wiggly when his feet and ears are handled, Diego is not at all aggressive. It was also reported that Diego has been very good at the vet in the past.
This is not a dog for an uninvolved owner! Diego will do well with an active family who will give him the exercise, love, training, and structure that he needs and he will quickly become their best friend for life.
