Dexter is a sweet, obedient 7 year-old who loves being with his people and likes being part of a pack. When Dexter‘s Pennsylvania owner passed away, the owner’s daughter contacted MAESSR to relinquish him.
Dexter has a little bit of separation anxiety. He does well when his family goes to work but very Velcro when they are home and wants to be right with them. Dexter is housetrained, goes out with the resident dog and does his business immediately. He will bark at the door to go out. Dexter has the run of the house with his canine companion, and they are good boys when the family is away. Dexter sleeps on his dog bed in the master bedroom.
Typical Springer, Dexter counter-surfs and gets into the trash. He eats in the kitchen and is learning where his food spot is. He loves attention from both humans in the household, rolling over for belly rubs. He is pretty big, but considers himself a lap dog! And, he is allowed on the furniture. Dexter will chase a ball and likes to lie on the dog bed in the living room and chew on a hard toy.
Dexter knows basic commands of “sit,” “stay,” “shake,” and “come.” He is good on a leash. This good boy does well meeting other dogs on a walk and has enjoyed the dog park. Dexter has medium energy. He likes to walk, but is also satisfied to just hang out with his people.
He rides well in the car.
Dexter and the resident dog like to wrestle and chase each other. When his buddy goes, Dexter follows.
Dexter is indifferent to the two household cats, and they quickly realized that he is not a threat. They now will sit near him. One even rubbed up against him recently.
Dexter was very good for the vet. He has not yet been groomed nor had his nails trimmed. A bath is in his immediate future. He allows his people to touch him all over, submissively tolerates itch spray for his armpits daily, and allows his ears to be cleaned.
MAESSR’s new family member is quite a boy and will be a welcome addition to his forever home. Summertime and the livin’ is easy, Dexter!
