Original: “He LOVES car rides so his foster dad accommodates him by taking Dexter and the resident Springer for rides around the block.”
Dexter is a charming Cocker Spaniel who has had a rather tumultuous life before becoming a MAESSR boy. His owners rescued from a shelter in New Jersey about four years ago; however, nothing is known about him before that. His rescue dad passed away last fall and his rescue mom is ill and could not take him to her new home. So, Dexter came into MAESSR’s care.
This handsome boy arrived at his foster home with an overwhelming health history, the item of greatest concern being the periodic seizures for which is takes liquid medication twice daily. Dexter is receiving medication for an ear infection too and he has some extensive dental work scheduled soon. A little on the pudgy side, Dexter needs to drop about eight pounds to get to a healthier weight for his frame. His foster dad is working with him on the weight reduction plan and this cutie has grown fond of apples, celery and carrots. Good, healthy treats, Dexter!
A bit of a challenge on a leash, Dexter is going to benefit from obedience classes with his forever family. He is good with other dogs when meeting on his walks, though. Inside, Dexter is quite good around the house and does not chew on anything he can’t eat! He would like to counter-surf, but he can’t reach the countertop. Dexter has learned that he can hop up on the leather sofa in the den but the white sofas in the great room are off limits to him and the resident Springer. At night he sleeps on his dog bed next to his foster mom’s side of the big bed. He enjoys resting his head on a small pillow, part of his blanket and pillow collection he brought to his new digs!
Housetrained, Dexter has accepted being crated for a brief stay. Generally, he is given free range of the house along with the resident Springer when his foster parents are out as he is a trustworthy pup. To say that Dexter craves attention would be an understatement—-he is a real lover who is very fond of his foster family, especially his mom. And you guessed right: Dexter is a true Velcro dog.
Dexter is full of energy and enjoys playtime with a few rubber toys. He LOVES car rides so his foster dad accommodates him by taking Dexter and the resident Springer for rides around the block.
Dexter should make a very good companion for someone who likes to walk, who will follow the vet’s medical orders, and who wants the love and affection of an adorable Cocker Spaniel.
