When Dexter’s original owners ran into financial difficulties and had to work multiple jobs, they realized he was not getting the attention he deserved. So, they contacted MAESSR to find their Virginia Springer boy a loving new family.
Dexter’s foster mom is amazed at how fast he has made himself at home. He is very easy going and really loves people. He also quickly became friends with the resident Springer and would like to become better friends with the two resident cats. He is very interested in them, but understands when they have had too much attention from him.
Although Dexter was crated as a puppy, he does not like going in the crate at his foster home. He is much happier sleeping on his dog bed. Since he is totally housetrained and trustworthy, this has not been a problem. At only 37 pounds, Dexter is on the smaller side, but that does not stop him from trying to peek on the counter to see if there are any goodies to get into. He will get down when told. Good boy, Dexter!
Riding in the car makes Dexter nervous. He jumps in the car readily, but then will whine once the car starts moving. Dexter does walk well on the leash; he may pull for a minute but will stop when corrected. He knows the commands sit, come, and down.
Dexter is a true sweetheart of a dog!
