First impressions are important but for many foster dogs, their truer personalities emerge with time. Unfortunately, as he settled and his emerging personality was evaluated, it became clear that Dexter could not be offered for adoption.
Original:
Dexter is an amazing Springer with an incredibly sweet and affectionate personality. He was given up by his family because they could no longer afford him.
Dexter has a lot of spunk but also loves to snuggle. He is great with people and is always ready to give kisses. When first meeting someone, Dexter gets a little excited, but very soon calms down. By far, Dexter’s greatest assets are his loving personality and his way with children. In his foster home, the resident children are two years old and eight months old. Dexter plays gently with them and has shown them nothing but love. Dexter loves and desires attention and he would be happiest in a forever home with someone who can spend a lot of time with him!
This sweet boy gets along well with other dogs showing no aggressive behavior whatsoever. He seems curious of cats and chases the resident kitty from time to time, but stops on command and never has tried to hurt his feline friend. Dexter is crate-trained and does well in his crate at night. He also is housebroken–no accidents so far. Also, he responds well to all basic commands: sit, down, and stay. Riding in the car, Dexter does get a little nervous and he also needs a little extra help with learning to walk on a leash. Generally, he has good house manners although his foster family is pretty sure that in former home, he was allowed on all of the furniture and bed. Whenever Dexter is not with his foster family, he does bark quite a bit and his foster family is working on this issue with him. As he becomes more secure in his foster home, this should dissipate.
If there is a family waiting for a MAESSR Springer who is great with kids, Dexter would be the perfect fit!
