Original: When Denver’s foster family received him from his relinquishing owner, he had lots of mats, yellow stains on his fur, and reeked of urine. An immediate bath was necessary and, fortunately, his foster dad discovered that Denver seemed to enjoy it. Denver let his foster dad touch and clip him everywhere and anywhere he needed to remove the matting.
His foster dad felt that he and Denver got along immediately. Denver has quickly become very attached to him and is by his side all the time now. When working around the house, inside or out, Denver is there with every move. He has his choice of where to sleep and splits his time between the floor at the foot of the bed, on the bed at the foot, and in his crate. Denver signals when he needs to go out. He has not counter surfed, chewed, or gotten in the trash. He does work his nose in great springer fashion though.
Denver knows “sit,” “paw,” and “come,” both on and off leash. He is a brisk walker on leash and likes to be as far in front as he can be without pulling. He loves to chase a tennis ball, both indoors and out, and will also chase down a Frisbee. He has met the dog next door, a 10 year old female. They got along great and went right to playing. He has not met children or toddlers since being with his foster family.
Denver’s foster dad feels he is a great pup, but sees that he displays an alpha dog mentality at times. Denver shows no fears, but will snarl if someone tries to pick him up. He is sensitive about his muzzle. He has had some difficulty being crated while his foster family is at work. Whether this is related to his epilepsy or another problem is unclear at this time. Though he is on medication for the epilepsy, Denver has had several, short bouts of spasms since in his foster home. Further assessment by his new vet will be necessary. Through all, Denver is getting lots of petting, reassurance, and patience from his foster family. He will be neutered and continually assessed as he unfolds with more time in his foster home
