Original: “As can be told from his size, this love’s main forms of preferred entertainment are eating, begging, and hunting for food on the counters.”
Deacon’s brokenhearted Washington, D.C. owner relinquished him to MAESSR when he became aggressive. His world had changed with the mobility of two new little ones in house. Since “Deak” has had a change of environment, his original loving disposition has re-emerged.
This handsome guy is housetrained. He is also smart and learned to use the pet door at his foster home very quickly, but would still prefer a human to open the door for him. He is trusted to have full run of the house and does not need to be crated. He is also trusted off leash when taking a walk in the woods or when just out in the front yard without a fence. He will pull on the leash if the person at the other end does not take control. Deacon knows “sit,” “stay,” “off,” “down,” and “leave it.” He listens well, but firmness is needed.
Deak is a typical Velcro Springer. He loves his foster dad, and thinks he needs to be with him no matter what dad is doing, inside or out. Deak will sit at the outside gate and impatiently wait for his dad’s return. However, if he has had plenty of exercise and is tired, he will go take a nap while waiting for his foster parents to come home. Deak likes to sleep in bed with his foster parents at night but does not stay long as he finds he becomes over heated. He will retire to the cool floor next to dad’s side of the bed.
As can be told from his size, this love’s main forms of preferred entertainment are eating, begging, and hunting for food on the counters. Reportedly, Deak was becoming aggressive with his food but has not shown this behavior since being in his foster home. He is very gentle when taking a treat from his person’s hand, and his family has had no problem removing the resident dog’s uneaten food when the new boy in town tries to finish it.
Deak has a few other habits besides the begging and counter-surfing his foster parents would like to change. He does jump up (mainly) on his foster dad when excited, he is a toilet drinker, and he will dash out the door to ensure he is not being left behind.
This young man is a joy to be around. He has a calm demeanor most of the time. He loves riding in a vehicle, taking walks, fetching sticks in the water, hanging out with the resident pets, and mainly being with his people. He had no problems at the groomer’s or vet’s office. He is fine with his feet being touched and tolerates his ears being handled although he seems to become uneasy if his fosters mess with them too long.
Deak will be spending more time in his foster home to make sure his attitude does not change after the honeymoon phase. Keep an eye open for updates on this cool, handsome guy. He might just be the new male in your life.
