Davey is a fun-loving and happy fieldy Springer who is in need of a new home through no fault of his own. His Pennsylvania owner raised Davey since he was a puppy, but a separation plus a hectic work and travel schedule had left Davey alone most of the time. Realizing that this sweet boy deserved a better situation with a family who would give him the love and attention he deserves, Davey’s owner turned to MAESSR for help.
A wonderful house guest, Davey is housetrained and able to wait up to nine hours to “hold it” if necessary. He will go to the door and bark once if he needs to go out. Very quiet inside, Davey will bark a bit when he is outside. He quickly learned how to use the doggy door but is still a little skittish if the door comes down and hits him on the way in or out! This good boy does not counter-surf, and he sits quietly when his people are eating. While he does not beg for food, he certainly wouldn’t mind if something was dropped on the floor for him! He is not food aggressive and does not resource guard either his toys or his food. Speaking of toys, Davey especially loves stuffed animals; they are so much fun for tossing around and chewing! He does not chew on anything inappropriate.
At night Davey likes to sleep at the foot of his foster parents’ bed on his mattress, content with knowing that his people are near. Although it is reported that Davey is crate-trained, his foster parents have not needed to use the crate because he is trustworthy in the house. He does find people furniture comfy, however.
Davey possesses a delightful personality and he loves people of all ages. He does well with even young children because he is very laid back. He has been exposed to infants as young as 7 months in his foster home and lived with two young children in his previous home without any problems or issues. When taken to be groomed, Davey was a very polite boy. Although he will jump on people when he first sees them, he responds to the down command quickly, He just gets very excited to see new people! Maybe they’ll give him those belly rubs he loves so much!
His foster parents have taken Davey to a local dog park and he was thrilled with all the other dogs, spending the entire time running and chasing them all over the park! He was exhausted when he got home, but he was a very happy Springer indeed! He gets along with other dogs but cannot be around cats. Since Davey has a high hunt instinct, he views cats as prey so his new home must be cat-free. A canine brother or sister would be high on Davey’s wish list because he loves rough-housing with his current foster brothers. His favorite activity is chasing them around the yard and scouting out any squirrels or rabbits that are unfortunate enough to wander into his territory. Despite his eagerness to hunt, Davey has not yet attempted to jump the four foot fence.
Davey knows basic commands, and he walks well on the leash. He also travels well in the car. Due to his high hunt instinct, however, he should not be trusted off leash or with the car windows open too far.
During Davey’s visit to the vet, it was discovered that he was positive for Anaplasmosis, which is an infection similar to Lyme disease or Ehrlichiosis. The vet thinks that this might be due to a previous infection since Davey currently has no symptoms. It was felt that no treatment was required at this time. With a current weight of 55 pounds, it was suggested that Davey trim 4 – 5 pounds off of his frame. Given his current activity level, this shouldn’t take long!
This wonderful, loving boy needs to find a family to love who will give him the attention he so richly deserves. Can’t you just picture yourself with this sweet boy as part of your pack?
