Original: Young Dave was found as a stray in southern New Jersey. As the shelter was very full, the kennel manager contacted MAESSR to help with Dave’s placement. Since his foster dad picked him up at the shelter, Dave’s tail has not stopped wagging! He is one happy boy!
Dave’s foster family has three resident female springers with whom he gets along well. He enjoys a good run with them in the yard as well as some quality ball chasing. Dave has a lot of puppy energy and is an active dog. He loves to pick up on scents and follows them through the yard. He would probably make a good tracking dog or be a champion at agility. Dave may interrupt his busy play schedule with a time-out to bark at birds and squirrels or to lick his human playmate’s face.
When it is time for going on a leash walk, Dave is eager to go. He needs some work on the leash, but he will walk and stop and sit on command. Dave answers to his name and knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” Dave is both housetrained and crate trained. Dave is crated when his foster parents leave the house and at night at bed time. He does very well– no accidents so far. He’s a bit nervous in the car, though. Dave’s house manners are good with no evidence of counter-surfing or trash picking. He will beg for table food, though. He likes to be with someone all of the time.
Dave has behaved very nicely with his foster parents’ grandchildren, the youngest of whom is a toddler. Children and springers make for good play buddies. Along with the human grandchildren is a boxer granddog; Dave enjoyed his company too. He is a real love bug who loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. When his foster dad is in his office at home or in the den watching TV, Dave will settle down and sleep on the floor next to his chair. Sometimes he will jump on his foster dad’s lap when he is sitting and he has jumped on his foster parents’ bed a couple of times. They are working to correct him on that issue.
Dave would make a wonderful pet for a family who will give him a lot of love and attention. He would love a home with a fenced in yard since he loves to run.
