Original: “Polite like his Pride and Prejudice namesake, Darcy comes when he is called and sits when asked.”
When a Maryland kennel was closing, MAESSR offered to help in the placement of its Springers. Mr. Darcy was one of these dogs.
Incredibly sweet, Darcy has won the hearts of his foster parents. Because of a lack of socialization and exposure to a variety of regular life experiences early on in his life, Darcy tends to be a bit timid when exposed to new people, things, and experiences. Taking some over-the-counter meds has helped to reduce some of this anxiety and his foster parents reinforce that he is doing well and that everything is fine when something unknown is encountered.
Housetrained, he was quick to catch on to use of the doggie door and enjoys being an inside dog rather than a kennel Springer. He is allowed on the couch and he loves to snuggle next to his people. At night he is happy on a dog bed next to his foster parents’ bed but he enjoys sharing that bed with his people if he is invited up. He likes to look to see what’s on the counter but gets down when told.
Polite like his Pride and Prejudice namesake, Darcy comes when he is called and sits when asked. He walks nicely on the leash too. More than willing to hop in the car for a ride, Darcy is a good passenger, settling down quickly and either watching the sights or sleeping quietly. His only offense is jumping up on his people for loving.
Darcy gets along very well with the resident and foster dogs and he is reportedly good with cats. Squirrels in the yard have to watch out for him, though! He loves to play with toys and engages the other dogs in play with exuberant play bowing and body slamming. He may almost be three, but he is still a puppy at heart. Darcy does not resource guard his toys nor his food. Good boy!
Are you willing to help this sweet boy overcome his shyness and teach him about the wonderful world around him? In return he will love you forever and be your own Velcro boy.
