Original: “Daphne would LOVE to be an only dog.”
Daphne came to MAESSR from North Carolina. She was abandoned by her former owner after he was evicted from the property on which he lived. Neighbors took her in but, unfortunately, Daphne did not get along with their female dogs and she cannot live with cats. So, Daphne began a new life as a MAESSR dog.
Daphne would LOVE to be an only dog. She gets along with the other dogs in her multi-dog foster home except when she wants all of the attention or wants them out of her way. When that happens, she will growl at them to tell the other dog to go away; occasionally, the other dog takes exception to that. None of the dogs have been hurt in the resulting squabbles, but it is annoying. She gets along with male dogs better than females.
Housetrained and crate trained, Daphne has been totally reliable in the house and is given full access as a result. She sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom at night. She walks well on the leash with only occasional pulling. Daphne does not really know any commands but is very well-behaved. She is such a little sweetheart.
Daphne was wonderful at the vet and the groomer. She had a urinary tract infection for which she is currently being treated. In addition she had ear infections in both ears which are also being treated.
Daphne does have some anxiety as a result of not being exposed to a lot of things in her former life. Her foster mom consulted with her vet and started Daphne on an inexpensive supplement for anxiety. It has helped her settle into her foster home. Now she acts like she as always lived there. MAESSR will require her adoptive home to continue this supplement for a minimum of three months after adoption.
The sweet girl would love a home where she could be the only dog and have people around to love on her.
