Original: Damien Marley was seized by Pennsylvania animal control as an abuse/severe neglect case. His name was given to him by the caretakers at the shelter due to his long dreadlocks which resulted from his extremely matted fur. When he came to his MAESSR foster home, his name was shortened because he seemed to respond to Marley better.
Although he has arthritis in his back legs and hips and has both some vision and hearing loss, Marley is the SWEETEST dog ever! He walks right next to you when you go for strolls and does not pull on the leash at all. He is a bit nervous getting in the car, but settles down nicely once he is helped in. He counter surfed once in the house and a simple correction stopped the behavior. Marley is housetrained and does not jump up on furniture. The only thing Marley does not like is a full set of stairs! Right now, his foster parents are carrying him up and down stairs, but the vet feels that Marley has more of a fear of stairs than inability to climb them because of arthritis.
This wonderful old boy gets along well with the resident Springer, the resident cat, and the ten-year-old son in his foster family. Marley is truly the perfect companion!
