When taking care of two 7 month old Springer boys became too much for their Virginia owner to handle, Dale and Jimmy IV became MAESSR boys.
At just seven months, Dale is a beautiful bench bred male who is a big boy now and is likely to be a big Springer. He has a gorgeous, curly, soft black and white coat. Besides being handsome, Dale is a sweetheart!
Dale has not met any cats yet, but he is such a sweet, loving boy it does not seem like he would mind having them around. In his foster home, Dale is living with eight other dogs of various ages and is adjusting very well to pack life. Still all puppy, he and one of his foster sisters love to wrestle and mouth one another’s faces. Just as he is good in his play, he is very good with people and dogs around his food bowl. Not a total angel, he will try to sneak some extra food from the other dogs’ bowls if they are not finished eating before he finishes.
In the morning especially, Dale loves to take walks and after pulling for a few minutes, he settles into a nice pace. His foster family is helping Dale learn proper Springer manners like not jumping up or chewing on people. He sometimes knows the commands sit, down, and no, but these need much reinforcement. MAESSR requires all families adopting dogs under one year old to take training classes with their new Springer. This will help reinforce the good manners Dale is learning in his foster home and help him bond with his new family.
Housetraining has been going rather well with Dale having had just a few accidents. This important training should be easy to complete. He is left alone for four hours at a time during the day and he makes it overnight with no problems. Dale has not been crated so far, so thankfully he has done extremely well with having free reign of the house. He has moved some clothing around the house but has not destroyed anything.
Like most Springers, Dale wants to be close to his humans and wants to sleep in the bed with the other dogs. Your typical Velcro Springer boy, Dale is usually not more than a few steps from his person, anticipating your every move and sometimes getting underfoot. He is very good about riding in the car and usually sits in the back as a good passenger. He is sweet, playful, and very loving. Dale loves children but in his puppy exuberance, he may knock little ones down trying to say hello. With training and time, this should improve. Since he loves to play, he would do very well if his forever family has another dog who shares his enthusiasm for playtime.
