When a divorce in Dakota’s Maryland family led to financial difficulties and a move to a much smaller place, her owner looked to MAESSR for help finding her a new home. Cody, as she’s known to her foster family, has settled into her foster home with ease. Her foster mom describes her house manners as “perfect.” Cody is housetrained and will go to the door if she needs to go out. She has spay incontinence, which is not uncommon in female dogs, but it is well controlled by an inexpensive daily medication. Cody will go into a crate willingly, but she is trusted with full run of the house. Cody will get up on furniture, as do the resident canines, but gets down when asked. At night, she curls up in bed with the two resident Springers and her foster parents.
A well-behaved girl, Cody knows the command “sit” and waits at the door with the resident dogs for the release “OK” before rushing outside. She walks well on a leash without pulling and greets other dogs appropriately. She is not a big barker and she loves to ride in the car. At feeding time, Cody shares her space with the resident dogs, and does not show any signs of guarding her meals.
Cody loves toys, and can often be found carrying one around in her mouth. She loves to play tug with the resident Springer but seems to enjoy naptime just as much! Cody is very friendly and greets everyone with a wag and a great Springer smile. She doesn’t jump up and was very good when spending time with her foster mom’s young granddaughter and some neighborhood children. She prefers not to have loud children in her face, but her only reaction to this was to turn and walk away. Good girl, Cody!
Although Cody has not been professionally groomed while in foster care, she doesn’t seem to mind having her nails trimmed or her ears cleaned. She was tolerant of being wiped off after being outside in the rain. Cody was also a very good patient at the vet.
This sweet girl is a beauty with a lot of love to give. It won’t be long till she is ready for her forever family to give her a lifetime of love in return.
