Little Miss Daisy Mae was found as a stray in Pennsylvania. The person who found her turned her over to a small, local rescue group that tried diligently to locate the owners of this sweet pup. However, after many newspaper and internet ads, no one came forward to claim her, so the group turned Daisy Mae over to MAESSR so that she could be placed in a great home.
It seems as though Daisy did not have much exposure to the outside world in her young life. She is a little timid, but curious when introduced to new situations and sounds like riding in the car, hearing the garage door opener, and meeting new people. Her foster mom is pleased to see that with each new experience, Daisy gains confidence.
Daisy gets along with the resident dogs although she tries to initiate play with an open mouth or a nip at their paws to get them to play; this should be corrected as other dogs may mistake her nip as aggressive. Although she is not living with cats currently, Daisy reportedly did well with cats at her initial foster home. Not a resource guarder, Daisy she takes treats very gently and has eaten out of her foster’s mom hand with no problem or complaint at all.
Daisy Mae has had some training and has displayed remarkable leash walking skills! She constantly wants to be in the heel position on a leash and has not pulled once or tried to get ahead of the person walking her. She heels so closely to the right side that you have to be careful when walking not to let her inadvertently trip you! Off leash, her recall is not consistent so she should not be off leash in an unfenced area as she will chase any rabbit or moving object. This pup loves to run and is starting to retrieve tennis balls.
Already learning basic commands like “sit” and “down” in her foster home, Daisy’s obedience training will continue after her adoption since MAESSR only place puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
When her foster mom is out, Daisy does not have full run of the house; instead, she stays behind a baby gate in the game room and does not try to jump it. She has not chewed anything that was inappropriate. Good girl! Daisy is not totally housebroken yet, so there have been a few accidents but they are decreasing in frequency as she gets into a daily routine in her foster home.
Daisy is learning to enjoy riding in the car. During her first long ride, she got a little car sick but sat quietly and patiently in the back seat. On shorter subsequent trips, she has not gotten sick and lies quietly on the back seat.
Great with her first experience with grooming, Daisy allowed her foster mom to comb and brush her entire coat. She also was excellent at her vet appointment despite all the poking and prodding that goes with a physical exam.
A cuddle bug who loves to be the center of attention, Daisy is looking for the perfect family to socialize her, train her, and show her all the fantastic joys of being a Springer!
