Update 12/27/07:
Roxy continues to do very well since her return. Her most favorite thing to do is to snuggle on the chair with anyone who is sitting there – should she get an invitation up? – even the people who come to visit. Everyone that visits wants to know what they need to do to adopt her!!! What an easy opener to explain MAESSR’s adoption process to yet another Springer convert.
When not adoring the people around her, Roxy loves to run in the yard with the other dogs. She loves playing tug with the resident Springer. She’s been working on her counter surfing issue and has been coming along nicely, but still needs to be reminded that her food comes from her bowl. She is just an absolute gem and is ready for her new beginning with the New Year.
Update 11/14/07:
Roxy fit right in with the rest of the pack as soon as she arrived in her foster home. When her foster mom said “WOW, what a little sweetheart,” that was putting it lightly. Roxy is a little love muffin. There are a lot of people coming in and out of her foster home, and everyone that has met Roxy has fallen in love with her!!
Snuggling on the recliner with whoever is sitting there, be it the kids, her foster dad, foster mom or guests, is Roxy’s first love. She politely will wait for the OK to join you on your lap. And, if you hold her, she will rest her head on your shoulder – oh, my. She also loves to snuggle in a bed when allowed. She listens to commands very well and knows to sit, lay down, shake, etc. When greeting people she does like to jump up but will get down when told off. She loves the human attention and will lean up against people so they can pet her more easily.
Roxy is a counter surfer but her family is working on that and sees much improvement. Having a trash can without easy access will also be best in her adopting home. When her foster family left for a couple of hours and gave her free roam of the house, the garbage bag that was sitting open in the trash can mysteriously emptied its contents all over the floor. Hmmmm – the family narrowed the mischief down to Roxy, since the rest of the dogs do not bother the trash when home alone. When her family is home, Roxy doesn’t bother it either – smart girl!!
Roxy really seems to care less that there are other dogs in her foster home. With the help of the rest of the pack, though, she’s decided it is fun to chase the resident cat. The resident dogs and the cat play a game every night. The cat begins by jumping up on a high stool so it can bat at the boys as they walk by. As soon as the cat jumps down, he’s fair game to be chased to his room. Roxy has picked up on this play quickly. Her foster parents are trying to tell her that it’s not really OK, since they don’t know if her adopting home will include a cool cat or not. Roxy also lives with children. She does not beg for food but will take what the 18-month-old hands to her, gently, of course.
When out and about Roxy pulls on her leash and is working to improve that skill with her foster parents. A fenced in yard or an invisible fence will be a definite need for Roxy in her next home as she can not be trusted off her leash. She loves to put her nose down to the ground or chase after birds that land in the yard. When on a scent or in pursuit of birds, she is oblivious to everything around her, including her foster mom’s call.
Roxy is not aggressive at all. You can sit right by her food bowl and there is not a word from her. She loves to play tug with her rope toy and has a playful growl when she plays like many Springers. She does bark to announce visitors when they arrive at the house and will jump up on them but she will settle down and lie on her back for a belly rub quickly. Roxy has returned to MAESSR after 4 years with an adopting family because a move has made their work and commute times longer. They felt Roxy was not getting the time and attention she deserved. She is a truly wonderful dog and will be a great addition to someone’s family who has the time to share with her. Her vetting will be completed and she’ll be ready to fit right in with a new family – would that be you?
Update 4/15/03: Lovely little Daisha found a family that is absolutely pleased to have her!
Original:
Daisha is a very small female, about 30 lbs, and has delicate features and small bones. She is extremely energetic and has a hard time walking on a leash, she wants to run. When left off the leash she runs circles around the yard with very large sticks but comes when called. I don’t have a fenced yard so that may add to her desire to pull when taken out on a leash. She needs to run.
She is very loving and wants to sit in your lap. She attempts to get on furniture but will stay down if told “no.” She sleeps on her bed beside our bed most of the night, but would love to be on the bed, if allowed. She is housebroken and likes to ride in the car. She knows how to sit and lay down.
She gets along well with the resident springer even though he isn’t very fond of her and the 3 dogs next door. She hasn’t been exposed to cats so her behavior toward them is unknown. She has had minimal exposure to children.
The staff at the shelter said she was very energetic, quite noisy, and had proven to be a destructive chewer. I have found that she does have an extremely loud bark for such a small dog, but she doesn’t bark excessively. She has only chewed her toys and chewys. I haven’t had any problems with destructive chewing. She stays in a crate during the day. When I first leave the house I can hear her crying but when I return she is calm and waits patiently to be let out.
She is your typical Springer with lots of energy and will need someone that can spend a lot of time with her. She is very anxious to please.
Can this little lady please you?
