Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Cyd and her littermate Seger came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs.
Cyd has a feisty and warm temperament. She was named after the famous dancer Cyd Charisse, and this pretty girl lives up the name. She is gorgeous, sleek, well-coordinated, and athletic. Cyd is an in-charge type of gal. She may appear initially shy and aloof to new situations, but don’t be fooled. Cyd will quickly figure out exactly what she wants and how to handle things. She’s the independent one, destined to forge her own way.
Indoors, she and brother Seger have discovered many fun things– pulling toilet paper, running around with shoes, snitching dish towels and socks, and a list of other activities. Cyd loves toys and enjoys romping and playing with the resident Springers whom she adores; she shows all signs of getting along with other dogs.
Outdoors, Cyd loves to chase and be chased. She plays challenge and chase games. At her young age she plans strategy. She walks herself on leash and enjoys tug and tackle games. Fall has brought to Cyd the enjoyment of leaves. She enjoys digging holes in the yard and running around with huge clumps of grass. Carrying sticks is a favorite exercise as well.
Cyd does not take her eyes off her human and has already learned the concept of “target” and “sit.” This young pup is highly trainable. She loves to sit with her human, and is already a by-your-side Springer on the sofa or chair.
Since she has a good appetite, Cyd does not like small puppy-sized bowls. Following the resident Springers, she wants a large bowl. She loves treats, particularly white fish biscuits and also adores chew bones which she will try to hide from her brother and resident Springers. She prefers the fluffy dog beds to the flat ones.
Miss C. does not as yet like the bath tub or the shower hose. She prefers to be wiped down. She is very good with having her ears cleaned, teeth touched, and paws handled. She also does well with car rides and being in a crate during the ride, although she’d rather be driving.
Cyd is in the process of being housetrained. She does well in a crate, holding matters for up to three hours at night or during the day. She will howl at high C to let her family know it’s time for a potty break. Cyd does well in a puppy-proofed, supervised space outside the crate in the house.
This is a feisty gal and the adoptive home will need to provide a lot of activity and exercise. She is a fun-loving Springer and will bring a burst of life and love to her furever home. Note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. It will require the adoptive family to take Cyd through two series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption.
