Update 02/13/11:
At 34 pounds including his small undocked tail, Cyclone, aka Cy, is a small boy. However, it’s expected he will fill out nicely with his intestinal worms gone and with normal physical development that happens in the second year for many Springers. He has adjusted to his foster home and continues to be a sweet Velcro boy. Coming from a hunting line, he is a natural for circling with his nose to the ground, yet he stays only a few yards away and comes to you the minute you call him…good boy!!!
Cy stays in his unfenced yard or on the outside deck and does his business in the same spot on the front lawn. He will run around the yard to get his energy out but doesn’t chase cats, squirrels or birds.
With ample exercise outdoors daily, Cy is quiet in the house. He likes to sit next to you on the furniture but, being an obedient youngster, he gets down with the off command. He does not bark or jump on people.
Cy lived with 2 other springers in his previous home. He has been quick to follow the lead of the resident dogs in his foster home and has learned some of his basic obedience by watching what they do for treats. He will share dog beds with the resident dogs and is now a happy boy who plays with them. His foster family feels he would benefit from the companionship of a gentle dog in his adopting home.
When Cy came into foster care, he was very shy and submissive. Understandably he is still a little unsure of new experiences but is very trusting with his foster mom. He allows her to touch him all over and is increasingly confident at her side. He will be ready soon for an adopting family who will take over right from where his foster mom leaves off – and if there is a canine member in the family to welcome him, Cy will be all the happier!!
Original:
Cyclone, also known as Cy or Cy-Cy, came into MAESSR’s care along with his two brothers, Lane and Caine, when their Maryland owner encountered financial difficulties and was no longer able to care for them.
Cy was crated previously, but now he has the run of the house. He is very good inside. He has no bad habits like counter-surfing or chewing on inappropriate objects. Although he does have an occasional accident, it is always right near the door. Outside, Cy stays around the house and does not leave the property, even when in the front yard. He does his business right after he eats and comes when called. Cy gets along well with other dogs and is good with kids, even allowing a four year old girl to walk him on leash. He jumps in and out of the car or truck readily and is a good rider.
It is obvious that Cy has not been exposed playing games such as fetch, but he does enjoy running around and will sometimes chase after another dog. He watches the other dogs in his foster home and imitates them. This means that Cy has now become a furniture and bed lover! He begins by sleeping on the floor in the bedroom, but sneaks onto the bed during the night like his foster siblings.
This sweet Velcro boy is smart and eager to learn. He learned how to sit and shake hands in one week. He walks at a heel and does not pull or run after squirrels. Although he is still skittish when first meeting strangers, Cy is getting a more comfortable as he continues to adjust. He is good at the vet and is patient when being bathed and groomed. He doesn’t even mind having his feet played with. Cy is not aggressive and has a gentle mouth.
Cy loves his foster family’s farm and runs, jumps, and hunts like a true Springer, never going out of sight. He has a nice, moderate activity level– energetic, but not off-the-charts. Since he is not gun-shy, he might even make a great hunting boy with some kind training. One time while running around the farm, Cy jumped into the pond by mistake and had to swim back to shore in the cold water. Like the pup he is, he just shook off and kept having fun!
A submissive boy, Cyclone is just beginning to discover the happiness of being a family pet. He is a gentle dog who is good with kids and lives to please. He would do best in a forever home that has another sweet dog in the family so that he never has to be alone. Do you have room in your heart for this sweetheart of a Springer?
