Original: “Cutie P. Puppy certainly lives up to her name! She is a fun-loving, fancy-free gal that loves to play as well as give and receive love.“
Cutie and her brother Bo became MAESSR pups when their Maryland owner became ill and had to rehome the Springers in his breeding kennel.
Cutie P. Puppy certainly lives up to her name! She is a fun-loving, fancy-free gal that loves to play as well as give and receive love. She plays beautifully both interactively and independently, and loves her chew toys and her soft toys. Cutie was holding her own with the resident year old “big sister” Springer and her littermate brother, but has really blossomed since becoming the only little puppy around when her brother went to a different foster home prior to his adoption. She takes lots of cues from the resident Springer, and would probably do best in a home with another dog, as she can be timid and a bit shy on her own. When she first arrived in her foster home, Cutie lacked confidence but she has been steadily growing surer of herself. She is really getting the swing of things now!
Cutie is a sensitive gal, and does submissively urinate, but has been getting better with this. Housetraining is going really well and she rarely has an accident in the house anymore. She knows the commands “go potty” and “do your business” and is very good at listening to those words so that she can have free time in the house! She will need calm corrections and lots of praise when she gets things right! She is perfectly comfortable in an active home and is living with two young kids, ages five and seven, another dog, and several chickens!
Although very shy around new people, give her a day and she’ll bound up to her new person, wiggling her way around their feet, waiting to get some love. Of course, she is a puppy and loves to get into things but she redirects very well. She is a chewer, so having a chew toy/bone on hand is a good idea. She loves her chew toys!
Cutie is crate trained and is a dream in the crate! After a little initial complaining, she’ll settle in and quiet down. She’ll let her people know when she needs something (food, water, to go potty) by whining. This vocalization is good in alerting her people of her need to go out; a girl wants to keep her crate dry after all! She sleeps on her own through the night in her crate and spends time in there when no one can be on “puppy watching duty.”
Cutie likes having her ears and feet touched and is good at the vet’s office. She actually has good leash manners, walking well and not pulling. She isn’t on a leash for long periods, though, as she has lots of country space to run. Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Cutie is a smart little pup and should be a star pupil! All in all, Cutie is darn near perfect and she will make some family very happy!
