Original: Cowboy is all Springer puppy. He is a sweetheart and very intelligent. As a typical Springer pup, he is full of energy and needs regular exercise so that he can be tired at the end of the day. As they say, “A tired Springer is a good Springer!” Cowboy came with his AKC papers, so some information is available on his lineage. He looks like a fieldie and apparently takes after his mother, but his father was a bench-bred dog.
At his vet check, Cowboy behaved very well. He is in excellent health with only one thing needing attention. He has an ugly hot spot on his tail that is being treated with a spray and antibiotics. He has a known food allergy to wheat and is eating a dog food that works well for him. It is available from most local and chain pet stores, just not the supermarket.
Cowboy knows basic commands and only barks at strangers who come on the property at his foster home. When he alerts, he has a very deep bark to warn away “invaders.” He gets along great with his canine brothers, ages 17 months to 14 years, and loves the 8-year-old boy in the family. Cowboy loves to play, play, play and will share the fun with anyone willing to join him.
The reason that Cowboy was surrendered to MAESSR is that his owner was transferred. The new job involves commuting three hours in each direction, on top of a full day of work. There wasn’t time any longer for Cowboy to get the attention a young puppy needs. It was a very difficult decision for his owner, but he wanted to do what was best for Cowboy, even if that meant placing him with a new family.
More as Cowboy settles in.
